DIVX issues

I have been trying to watch some DIVX. In Media Player the sound is fine but the video (4:3) is squished in horizontal. Now if I open the same file in DIVX player it is fine in size but the sound gets these little pops, it sounds almost like vinal records playing.

I cant figure it out. All the updates say that I have to updated codec's but it is just not working right. So frustrated.

WMP is one of your problems, i'd say....

download Media Player Classic or VLC. both are freeware. if you get MPC (open source, free, self-contained file of 3Mb only), try both commands below to fix your aspect ratio problem. note: in order to save your time, memorize the keyboard shortcuts that appear on the menu!

r-click video window > video frame > override aspect ratio > (try all)
r-click video window > pan & Scan > increase width > (kbd shortcuts)

if you still get bad video or sound on MPC, you could try uninstalling and re-installing your codecs. personally, i dont use the DivX codec... instead, i use the more compact XviD codec to decode both DivX and XviD content. another alternative would be installing the FFDShow Tryouts codec pack. it's open source and free.

in gomplayer you just rightclick choose aspect ratio manually if you want. mediaplayer classic also does this. i just like time stretching so i use gomplayer instead of mpc now.
