Good, hopefully this puts pressure on Microsoft to include it in the fall update.

The DiVX CEO accidentally let slip that DiVX is coming to the fall update. Link to thread.

I should have said that even though it's already highly probable, I hope this puts pressure on them to confirm it for the fall update.

Oh, I don't think MS will confirm anything until the week of the update and they'll do almost anything to keep the info from leaking. That story about downloading Xbox 1 games has already been pulled....at MS's request, I'm sure.

Wow, something XBMC could do loooong ago (no thanks to MS). I wish Sony and MS would quit play this stupid game of "it's a piracy codec" and just support all codecs. Soooooo freakin' annoying. :|

Any idea if this will include xvid?

Just DiVX for now. DiVX and xVid are different products so different licensing deals would have to be done.

I was under the impression that xvid was covered under GNU GPL.

It is but I thought you still had to license it for commercial use like the PS3 or 360 (probably wrong).

In regards to xvid support on the 360, I ran across this rumored leak back in September. I never followed up with it though so I cannot say whether or not the stuff in here is true. Maybe some of you can shed more light?

I know. I figure that if it comes out for one then it has to come out for the other if either wants to remain competitive in the media center sense. A confirmation on either would make me jump for joy. I'll edit my post to make it more clear though.

Hmmm...Fall update for the 360 in December? Isn't December winter time???

Technically, winter starts on the solstice (Dec22 this year?).

Divx can decode Xvid files, so perhaps that will allow xvid-encoded avi's to be played as well. And I'm guessing this Divx commitment won't just be limited to the playback of .divx files right?

I don't think anyone knows for sure. It will be a real slap to the face if it is limited to .divx files.

its not hard to rename file extensions from .avi to .divx.
