What set of DivX codecs should I use? I'm new to all this stuff and I see about a dozen different codecs out there and I hear about a new version of a particular one coming up that divX movies encoded under that new version cannot be played on system with the old version, blah blah blah. And I just d/led VirtualDub and upon launching it, it said my codecs have been altered from the original ones and may cause crashings. So I'm all confuse. So what is the single best "official," if any, version out there?

I need one that is able to play and save divx movies, and of course, I want it to be stable. I'm currently using Win98 but will be upgrading to XP soon.

And while I'm at it, what's the best DivX player (most feature packed but yet still system resource efficient, and stable) ?

you can have multiple versions installed at the same time. Virtual Dub does that, nothing to worry about. I use divx4, and there are many players you can use, check out The Playa .. also go to divx-digest for more info .. good luck .. also doom9.org is good ..

The "officail" is 3....3....3.71? 3 sumpin. Well, last i knew anyways, that was a few months ago. The beta at that time was 4. But the bggest differences I beliedve came from using them to encode, not to play.
And ya, The Playa is what i use
