Divx codec issues

I have encoded some video using Divx and it plays, until I change the file name. I encoded it using Divx 5.02 and it doesn't work with Divx 5.02 or 5.03. When I open the Divx file, my mouse cursor disappears and the WMP 6.4 window remains black. Sometimes, my mouse cursor reappears if I go to the task manager. I've tried the files on another computer and they play flawlessly even if I change the file name from the original file name I used to encode the files. What could be causing this problem?

Have installed some detonator drivers recently? I say this because a few days ago, I installed them and the video playback on movies was all messed up. I had to re-install the DivX drivers again and it?s working fine now.

I have installed new Detonators since, but reinstalling DivX doesn't work.

What DivxCodec are you using?

I had installed Nimo Codec Pack a few months ago to fix some weirdness I was having with divx encoding. I tried to play a movie that I had encoded pre-nimo, and it was all green. I saw NuclearFusion's post in OT about the nimo codec pack being terrible, so I uninstalled it and installed the FFDShow codec (sorry, I'm on my laptop and have no link), and it's been great ever since.

Try uninstalling your old codec and trying FFDShow, it might fix your problem

I'm was using DivX 5.03. I just tried using FFDShow and the same problem happens. I'm beginning to think a reformat is inevitable.

I've heard very bad things about installing codec paks like Nimo's. A Developer for Zoomplayer mentioned something about it on their forums IIRC.

I have a similar problem, I downloaded the 5.03 codec from doom9's web site, and the only way I can view it is with the included divx player. I use dvdx 2.2 to make the .avi files, I'm going to try divx4 again, encoding right now (should finish sometime tonight, I'll let you know how it turns out) with dvdx 2.2 as the divx4 videos I made previosly from a different encoder(only up to divx4) has no problems with windows media player.

still didn't work, but I upgraded to the latest version of media player today, and now it's working fine, I guess the fixed some unkown codec issue of somekind.

I tried using WMP9 instead of WMP6.4 and everything plays, but a green screen flashes between actual video. Everything is smooth and doesn't skip though.

re-install your codecs, the flashes of green will usually mean you had a bad rip, or you codec has been fubared. The problems with the bad rips arewhy I stated using dvdx instead of the other available rip then encode, it does everything right of the dvd with no glitches, but the file sizes tend to be a little larger than ripping seperatly a 2hr movie would usually be about 650mb at 910kbps but with dvdx it's an 850mb file at the same 910kbps, reduced to 650kbps it's around 720mb.

Well, I know my DivX AVI's work because they work on another computer and they worked on this computer about a month ago, so I guess I hvae corrupt drivers. I've uninstalled my DivX codecs and reinstalled them and that doesn't help. I'm assuming when I uninstall them, not all DivX stuff is actually deleted. What method should I use to make sure everything is gone?
