I like the tablets because they are lighter, more touch friendly and you can cuddle up with it like a book on the couch or something. Laptops are as cuddly. :)

Usually I have a tablet and a ultra light laptop because I find these devices are very apples and oranges and sometimes I want a tablet and sometimes I want a laptop.

So for me a MBA couldn't really replace my iPad Mini, because that's a completely different tool for a different job.

I recently got my Surface 3. This might be the best hybrid tablet-laptop so far. It's definitely more tablet than laptop (and the Surface Pro 3 more laptop than tablet). And I'm loving it.

I don't like the Air at all. The resolutions on both Airs are not very ergonomic, and I hate the lousy viewing angles of the 11.6". The quality of the screen of the 13" is in the same ballpark of my 2009 MBP, which is to say it is OK but not great by 2015 standards. In contrast just about everyone says the 12" MacBook's screen is excellent.

I do get what you're saying. Good display quality is important. It should really have an i5 CPU though. Especially since it does have that gorgeous display. The Core M is better suited for the cheaper Airs.

The rule of thumb for any Apple product though is never buy the first generation.

Yup. Part of this is just due to the availability of technology, part of this is likely honest incorrect design decisions, and part of this is intentional sandbagging on Apple's part.

The good news here though is that Skylake Core M is coming sooner rather than later. The bad news is that I suspect the new MacBook will continue to use Core M, for thermal, laptop size, and battery life reasons.

What's the point of that? It is an iPad-level CPU trying to drive a normal OS. Might as well get a mobile device with an OS designed for a weak CPU.

It is the first true post-Jobs product. I still can't believe its price tag or battery life.

I felt that the iPhone 5C and its official dot cases fit that bill. Especially the dot cases.

You may be talking first product that he never had oversight on, and that would sound about right. I'm speaking more from a design and existing standpoint.

I really want a macbook, but being 14 and not having a job I'm not able to buy one. But oh well, you get what you get, I have a Toshiba for work and internet surfing :)

I would go for the Macbook. It is much more iPad-like than the Air and I could not deal with the Air's screen. Look at it in person, it is quite impressive.

It's also quite expensive, and you're paying for looks, not performance. It's also Apple 1st-gen.

But, if all you're going to do is iPad stuff, and literally have money to burn, then sure.

The MacBook is $1,300. I found a new 2014 11" MBA locally for $700. Almost half the price. The decision was obvious IMO.

I honestly think this argument that the Air's screen is now terrible is hilarious. It's clear that the MacBook's screen is superior, but I can use my Air for hours with respect to reading text and it doesn't bother me one bit. IMO it is definitely not worth double the price.
