Eye-opening images...but not quite as distrubing as ay holocaust images out there...*shudder*

Just more imagery of how cool our weapons are when we use them.

I'm not sure why but my first reaction is that people are morons for being shocked by images like these. I'm amazed by the number of people who don't understand the chaos and destruction caused by a low level conflict, let alone a full blown war. Then they see these and think "If only we could show this to everyone, there would be no more war".

There will always be psychotic dictators/leaders willing to inflict huge horrors on others. Conflict is part of human nature and it won't disappear anytime soon. Just because you won't do/consider something does not mean the guy a couple blocks or half a world away wouldn't do it.

Dezign, don't take any of this as applying to you, I just know too many people who have no idea what happens outside the US. This is just my reaction to those images of how ugly this world can be and what actions can be required of us.

Memnoch

No offense taken, Memnoch.

I understand the chaos caused by low level conflict/full blown war (or try to understand, at least... I don't think anyone could ever truly understand unless they were there), and was simply expressing my sorrow for such destruction. I don't personally, and wouldn't expect anyone to really believe: "If only we could show this to everyone, there would be no more war". (that'd be like pro-lifers showing pictures of dead babies and hoping that by grossing everyone out, there wouldn't be any more abortions... it's just not that simple)

Conflict is indeed part of human nature, but I haven't quite been numbed by the horrors of war yet... I hope I never am.

Peace,
Dezign

EDIT: Spelling.

Holocaust images are extremely disturbing. What happened to the Jewish Community was a complete disaster. I don't understand how 6 million jews were killed. At least ONE, yes, one, should have said something. People fled to the US, yet no one said anything. Either that, or the US remained ignorant.

I'm a moron, because I'm not used to seeing pictures of dead people, people burned to death, people with limbs blown off? 😕

Sure, I'm aware that many Americans live a sheltered life here in the states, but to say it's moronic to be shocked by these pics, is moronic.

I never stated my views on the war, and I never thought the above... cute how those like you are quick to jump to arms. Go on ranting little one, and continue to make ASSumptions.

You absolutely IMPLIED your views by posting that! Tool.

Okay, how do you figure that. All I see is a thread that shows sadness for the many deaths that occured from the Gulf Coast war. Thousands died because of one man.

Thank you.

Peace,
Dezign

I find it an AMAZING act of clairvoyance on your part to simultaneously post this the SAME day that Susan Sontag of The Guardian prints THIS: Guardian

Oh yea, you have NO axe to grind.

Interesting, thank you for the link. I didn't even know The Guardian existed until now.

My girlfriend Jenny sent me the link to the images.

Do you have a Valentine? You seem rather bitter and confrontational right now. *hugs* Have a chocolate and ask someone for a hug, you'll probably feel better after that..

Peace,
Dezign

Why thank you! I feel much better now.
What was I thinking there for a moment?

😉

PS: Actually there is some history behind that. Sontag and The Guardian are shrill harpies for the euro-left. I just got done sending her an E-Mail about that same article.

Nevermind.

I guess I explained my thoughts poorly, or just plain misspoke. Yes, the pictures are shocking and horrifying, it's not moronic to be repulsed and upset over them. I just get pissed when people are amazed that it things like that happened. They seem to think war is more like the old John Wayne movies and people get shot and just drop. They don't see the brutal reality of blowing up a convoy or destroying a dug in position. You shouldn't be surprised that people die in these ways in a war, high explosives are not selective...

Maybe I'm not very good at explaining my thoughts. Chalk it up to a friend's GF, who can't understand why war would ever be necessary. She has no idea what happpens in armed conflict... I don't discuss it with her any more.

On a side note though.

I heard that a Iraqi (a diplomat as I recall) asked a US rep. what would happen if Iraq entered Kuwait shortly before it happened.
The rep. said "Nothing" or something similar.
Iraq took this as a more or less OK to invade.
Then the US used that as an excuse to kick some ass.
I can't help but think the whole thing was a set-up on the US's part.
The military industrial complex in this country is HUGE, and now and again they need to prove their toys work in order to sell them.
Call me a skeptic, but that's how I feel.
It must be a hold over from the "Nam" days.

Not quite.

You are thinking of April Glaspie, former ambassador to Iraq. Saddam and her have different recollections of the same conversations they had togeather in 1990. She denies saying that it was just hunky dory to invade Iraq.

Well, even though I may have gotten my facts a bit crossed. I knew I didn't dream the whole thing up.

I guess I'm a bit jaded, but I can't help but question what the government say's regarding such matters....
