I have a PC and since those "switch" commercials were so moving a mac now too.

I know those Macs are supposedly good at some things. . . in any case if they aren't then I got it because it was pretty.
What's a good distrib. program to run on this thing? I'm running os x

thanks

jeff

Macs ROCK at RC5! They are about (IIRC) 2-3x faster than the fastest Athlon!

What are the specs of your PC, and we should be able to find a good program for that too 🙂

Confused

If you look at the RC5 Speed Calculator HERE, you'll notice that while the even the AMD Athlon index is a 3.4, the Mac G4 has an index of 8.7! :Q 🙂 So yeah, Mac G4s do ROCK at RC5. 😉

My PC is just a 1 gig t-bird, 512 ddr, with a zip drive (ok so I lied, I don't have a zip drive).

I joined the united devices paper folding thing. I only leave my PC on only during the day because it's too loud at night.

Thanks for the input

The only major projects (that we have teams in, anyway) that don't have an OS X client are ECCp-109 and UD.

The rest do: Community TSC, D2OL, Distributed Folding, Folding@Home2/Genome@Home, RC5/OGR-25, and SETI. You have many options. 😉

Welcome to the UD team 🙂 And hopefully welcome to the RC5 team with your Mac 🙂

You would be able to help out another team with your Athlon, as with UD you get points for how long your computer is analysing rather than how much. Many people are running UD alongside SETI, and doing quite well in both of them! 🙂 For SETI info, check this link 🙂

NWM, wth are you doing up at this time!? It's like....late over there! Oh, hang on, it could just be i'm up about 3hrs earlier than i normally am...😉

Confused

so most distributed programs have an os x client

now which one runs most effectively on the mac? I know that macs are only good for graphic arts and the like, but they're good at that. The mac was mentioned to be very good at RC5, is that the project for me?

Yep, most do have a Mac/OSX client 🙂

My personal preference of projects is Seti, however I know that RC5 really rules on a Mac, so i feel you will be the most help there! This project should (hopefully) be finished by the end of the year, so the more help the Team can have with RC5, the quicker it will finish and the sooner those people can move their computers to helping in other Team projects.

So my best suggestion is RC5, as that is what the Macs really do rule at compared to the best of the PCs, however some other people may be able to give you some help with the other projects and the Mac, plus I have to go out to work in a few minutes, and still gotta get ready! 🙂

I hope I have helped some 🙂

Confused

can someone give me better directions about installing the RC5 client onto my mac with os x?

The instructions aren't very clear and I'm not sure.

I downloaded the files and unzipped them but there doesn't appear to have any exe program. The documentation says I have to untar the file in the terminal?

thanks
