When I open the client, I get a window with no drop down menus or anything like them.

Is this proper? On the distributed's download page, it talks about clicking on "networking" or something to download the first packet. I didn't do anything but put in my email address, and it's already cracking keys.

Should I be doing something other than waiting to get my password to join TeamAnand?

since the client is command line, there are no gui enhancements. you should however be able to right click on the clinet anywhere to bring up a menu. from there you can flush/fetch so dnet acknowldges your doing work. after than you should wait until you see your name/email on the dnet stats page. since dnets auto mailer doesn't work, you'll have to click the link that says "i have forgotten my password please email it to me" or something like that. after you have recieved your password, go to the team anandtech page @ dnet and click the link that says "i want to join this team" enter the info it requests, and you should be all set. i hope this helps

I'll try.

The client isn't supposed to have any frop down menus at all. It is just a static box that updates every once in a while with the latest information and progress. Paulson (yes that Paulson :Q) has a very good tutorial about setting up the client. He also has many screenshots so you can make sure your client looks OK.

If you right click on the client's icon or anywhere in the window, you will get a drop down menu in which one of the options is update. This is what you need to do to download your packets and upload any that you have completed. Until you do this your client is crunching "randoms" which means, since the client hasn't had any work assigned to it yet, it makes up a key and you have to hope that someone else hasn't already checked that key.

Edit: yes you should be doing something while waiting for your password, Assimilating new team members! :D
