wtf people... this morning on the radio show they were talking about people doing ridiculous things while driving... like eating a bowl of cereal with milk (he was arrested), changing into workout clothes, shaving their legs, people driving with their knees and all sorts of other things even on highways.

If I ever get hit by any of these people I would fucking go off on them. They had callers practically bragging about all the things they're doing and all the hosts could do was tell them "stay safe". These people are laughing about it as they list all the things they could do. Hey, fvck you.

I don't get as pissed at people who yap on the phone because at least you're still looking at the road and have a hand on the wheel - try the speakerphone though huh? ... but wtf is wrong with you that you think it's ok to be completely doing something else while driving a 2 ton machine around other people? This is almost as bad as driving drunk... it would only take a disaster for these people to learn wouldn't it?

That's why today you have to be an even better driver, to watch for and avoid assholes like that . Some people's stupidity amazes me, I'm pretty sure making time to do any of the aforementioned at home is more time efficient anyway!

I've always preferred to eat, drink coffee, whatever, on land... and drive fast (and attentively) to make up time.

I talk on the cell phone in my car all the time.
If I see other people doing it, I tailgate them and get pissed off.

I am special.

Eat, drink, smoke, talk all you want. Just keep the car at the speed limit and stay in lane, that's all I ask. I just hate when someone is so distracted they're oblivious to the fact that they're driving 10 miles below the limit.

My biggest driving pet peeveare people who tailgate the person in front of me and are constantly braking. They gun it, then brake, gun it, brake, gun it, brake. Guess what? THat won't make the person in front of you go any faster and all you're doing is wearing out your brakes. Just ease up on the gas a little and you won't have to slam on your brakes every five seconds.

Saw a woman the other day driving a full-size van weaving around in her lane. As I passed I saw that she had her cell phone in one hand and a "big-gulp" sized drink in the other and was steering with the pinkie finger of the hand holding the drink.

Didn't they do a study where they mounted cameras in 1000 cars and found that distracted driving was the number one reason for accidents? I believe the number one distraction was changing CDs.

Even on local roads where you're going the limit and obeying traffic laws, what if the person in front of you hits the brakes hard to avoid something and you subsequently, with hardly any control of your wheel while holding something else, have to jam on your brakes... your vehicle veers toward the sidewalk and hit some mom and her kid? Or you didn't want to spill the milk on your lap so you don't brake hard and just hit the guy in front of you anyway?

This shit isn't just about staying attentive or obeying traffic laws... if you have little to no control of the car in any given split second, it's going to suck for everyone involved. Just because 99% of our driving time is uneventful doesn't make it ok to be lax about it. It really doesn't take that much to kill someone. These people who laugh about being able to multitask behind the wheel piss me off because they think it's so awesome to be able to do it while missing the point completely.

Even if you trust yourself, you can't trust anybody else around you not to make any sudden stupid moves so accidents can happen anytime.

I use my knees to hold the steering wheel sometimes if I have to open a wrapper or something. It's better than just letting the wheel go.

I fully agree with you. That's why I keep MY distance and pay attention and if I see someone in front of me is distracted, I'm not riding their ass. I just feel that there's no hope for this situation so I've resigned myself to the fact that the majority of the people on the road are completley out of it.

gotta love the idiots who are reading (newspaper or books) while driving on the freeway..WTF are they thinking??? I have seen this many times in both rush hour (bumper to bumper) and non-rush hour traffic....
