I've got creative Live! 5.1 platinum. all the sudden yesterday there was this distortion over all the songs. I tested the speakers on my MP3 player and its not coming from them..Klipsch 5.1 is what i got if that helps. I put earphones in my front speaker output on the soundcard and it was so distorted. I turned down the volume and it was just a lower volume but still the same distortion..really need help

Run the Direct X Diagnostics program and see what shows up there. It will analyze your multimedia and tell you if you have problems.

Go to start/find/files. Type in diagnostics and you should get several hits which will be part of your sound blaster. Click on one and it should bring up the diagnostics program. Might not find your problem there, but got to keep trying.

are you using an eq within winamp or another type of program like that? With winamp amplifing the signals they become extremely distored.

I am assuming you've reinstalled the drivers and directx 8.1. If not then thats your first step.

Next step, determine what type files distort. (Examples.........mid, .wav, .cda etc.)

If its all of them, its possible your card bit the dust. If it happened out of the blue especially. If it happened after an update or installation of any software, then start looking that direction.

Not certain what OS you run, but if its ME or XP you could always try going back to a happier time (known running correctly) and see if it still distorts. If it does, contact Creative for a RMA if the card is still under warranty.

If you have lots of time and some patience, you could reload completely and see if your drivers or related files just got trashed.

Hope you find your answer........:)

Open up your sound mixer/volume control application, and start putting checks in the boxes on the "playback" mixer. Checking a box mutes that channel. The boxes that must be unchecked are Master and Wave, and the others, as necessary. If the cd/digital in channel is not muted, I get mad distortion here. Not good, tube distortion. Horrible, horrible digital distortion.
