Distorted S-Video output from GeForce 6200

The distortion is hard to describe, so I took some pictures, look for the vertically stripped dark and light "waviness" in the red background:

It's subtle, especially in these pictures, but still defiantly noticeable.

The bars only appear on color output, and are most pronounced with reddish colors. They also shimmer, every so slightly, and whenever the resolution is changed, or the s-video cable is unplugged, then plugged back in, the bars seem to travel across the screen quickly, before stabilizing again.

This distortion appears from the second the computer is turned on, before booting into any OS, although it is harder to spot because there are no reddish colors during boot up or in the BIOS.

There is no distortion for VGA output, and the Radeon 8500 video card that was in this computer previously did not have this problem.

I called EVGA tech support about this, and they recommended getting a replacement, which I did, and of course the new card has the same problem. So I'm guessing there is something wrong with my computer...voltage levels perhaps? Unfortunately I do not have another AGP computer to test this card on. Here are the specs:

EVGA 6200 AGP 128MB

Asus K7M Motherboard
Athlon 700Mhz
396MB memory

How about the S-video cable? Have you swapped that out? Also, although svideo is shielded, you "may" have it running close to a power cord that "could" be inducing a voltage on it. Try moving it up and down or away from other cords while you watch the screen, and see if the pattern is shifting or doing away.
 
I have tried different s-video cables, and isolating the chord from power sources and what not has no effect. What it comes down to in this case, is that the same cable works fine with the Radeon 8500. Thanks for the suggestion tho.
 
Yes, tried changing the refresh rate...no difference. The S-video goes to a crappy 27" Daewoo TV, but its never had these problems with anything else
 
This may be worth a try (from EVGA's website).

NVIDIA drivers differentiate an S-video TV from a composite TV by searching
for 75-Ohm loads on the chrominance and luminance lines. If the driver detects
only one such load, it assumes that it has a composite TV and drives both
chroma and luma onto that line. This approach allows both types of TV to
display in color. Unfortunately, some S-video TVs do not apply the correct load
to both lines, causing the driver to detect an S-video TV as a composite. The driver, in turn,
sends the lower quality signal to the S-video TV. To work around this problem,
use the Control Panel to override the ?Auto-select? feature. This can be done
following these steps:


1) In the Settings tab of the Display Properties Control Panel, click Advanced.

2) Select GeForce tab

3) Select nView Display mode, right click on device that should be TV and click TV output settings.
It will have a picture of icon representing your TV

4) Right click and choose "TV Format"

5) Select Advanced

6) Change the "Video output format" or "Connection" option to S-video.

7) Select apply
 
Yea I am sure...because the TV displayed the S-video signal fine from the Radeon 8500, same S-video cable as well.

The computer is grounded...I even bypassed the power strip and plugged it right into the wall, and still nothing. Perhaps an old crappy PSU could be causing these problems?
