Distorted Icons

Harvey cured my problem with the broken fonts by checking "cleartype" but now I have another plaese help.
Fitted a new 20" LCD running on a Radeon 9600 3/4 years old. Resolution 1600 x 1200.
The trouble is that The colours of windows folders are washed out and the desktop icons are distorted. Is this down to the card not being "man" enough or what. Thanks in advance.

The card is certainly "man" enough for standard desktop use.

1600x1200 is a 4:3 monitor. When you say the icons are distorted, it sounds like a widescreen resolution is being sent to the monitor. Could you double-check this in display properties?

As for the washed-out colors, are you using a DVI connection? If you are using analog VGA connection, washing-out of colors and loss of sharpness are possible at 1600x1200.

Yes it is a 4:3 monitor and when I say distorted I mean not crisp. The monitor is driven by the DVI output of the card and the lack of colour depth only occurs on windows apps. Intenet pictues etc. are excellent.

If it was the card's fault, everything would look blurry. The card doesn't "know" if it is displaying a Windows menu or icon or picture.

Maybe someone else has other suggestions.
