I built my computer 2 months ago. I used:
Aspire X-Pider case (w/ 420W Turbolink PSU - came with case)
Intel D865Perl motherboard
2.8ghz P4 w/HT
1024mb (2x512) Corsair VS PC3200 in dual channel
80gb WD 7200, 8mb
(Jaton 3DForce4) NVidia GeForce4 ti4200 VIVO AGP 8X (w/ 56.72 driver)
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Pioneer DVDRW
Sony CDRW
Sony Floppy
4 case fans (1 side, 1 front, 2 rear)
Sony SDM-HX73 17" LCD (w/ DVI)
Up until 2 days ago everything was working perfectly. Then all of a sudden my display bugs out, scratchy distortion, flicker, then it goes out completely & I have to shut down & reboot at the power button. Reboot, everything's fine just long enough for me to check Device Mgr. & dxdiag, and started running some hardware diagnostics on everything video related using V-Com System Suite 5 when the display wigged out again. Device Mgr. & dxdiag were fine. Tested memory w/ Memtest86, OK.
Thought it might have been the driver so I uninstalled the 56.72 driver, used Driver Cleaner to clean up the remains, then installed the 66.93 driver. No change.
Disconnected the DVI cable, and connected via VGA and everything was fine for a couple of hours, then it started all over again. Now the display is distorted regardless of DVI or VGA connection, and I can't do sh*t with the computer, don't have a spare vid card to try out yet.
Monitor works fine connected to my old Gateway computer via VGA.
I have an Antec 430W TruePower PSU ordered at Newegg, which I should've done to begin with. I haven't the vaguest if it contributed to the problem or not, but I'm doing it anyway. I've emailed the place I got the ti4200 and I'm waiting on a response. I suspect the vid card is toast.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, -kd5-
