Dissapointingly low 3dmark score with 6800 - what's up?

I'm not sure if this is a problem or if I just overestimated the capabilities of my card. I recently rebuilt my sytem with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, nForce3 motherboard, 1024mb RAM, and a BFG 6800 OC'd and softmodded to GT (128mb tho).

Unfortunately, my 3dmark score is a seemingly miserable 2862 (CPU score is 4309, so it seems to be a card problem). My question is, shouldn't this be higher? I'm reading about people with similar setups getting 4-6k with a 6800GT -- does the 256mb make that much of a difference? If so, that's the worst $100 I've ever saved. The real question is, will it still handle HL2 come tomorrow? (Takes care of CS:S no problem atm).

Worthy of mention is that one of my 512mb RAM sticks is corrupt, so I've currently only got 512mb of Corsair VS3200 ram in the comp. Is that really significant enough to take more than a thousand points off of my score?

I'd appreciate any help. Could this possibly be a problem with my softmodding (I followed the directions to the letter using RivaTuner to unlock the pipelines)?

I suppose while I wait for responses I'll try undoing the softmodding to see if that actually increases my score...

Anyway, thanks in advance. Getting an RMA on a stick of RAM from Corsair is a pain.

Ive gotten a better score than that with 512mb ram with a p4 2.8 and 3100+ Sempron, both paired with a 6800nu (soft-modded of course).

sounds bad, i'm held back by my CPU and with my GT@Ultra speeds, i am getting 4950 in 3DMark 05, make sure you have Fast Writes enabled, latest drivers (i used 66.93), DirectX 9.0c, mobo chipset drivers, and all that good stuff. and if you get the second 512 stick working anytime soon, set AGP Aperture to 256 MB
good luck with that man
