What a bunch of assholes. They disrepect the dead, especially those who have fallen in the service of their country.

Sounds like everyone is getting all worked up over nothing.

Wasn't the smartest or most considerate thing for EGM to do but not something to get in a hissy fit about if you ask me.

I take it you have never been in the military or had a family member in it?

There are bigger problems in the world to get worked up about. I signed though.

Well, the point is not the apology, but the actions that were taken by EGM that altered the picture, from that picture you would not have guessed that these soilders are mouring ??

We altered this image to fit a story theme (soldiers preparing for online war), not realizing what the original context was (soldiers mourning their fallen comrades).

Are there any other servers that are hosting these pictures? I want to link to them without going through AnandTech. I'm going to spread this to other forums.

Holy carp, that's pretty blatantly disrespectful. Good of them to come forth with a prompt apology and acknowledge their mistakes, and that it was their fault alone. I'd let the issue rest.

Read the thread not just the first post - EGM Apologized and not some typical PR weaseling non-apology:
No excuses, we screwed up. -- Dan "Shoe" Hsu, Editor-in-chief, Electronic Gaming Monthly

Hey hergehen, you might add the apology link to the first post since people are just reading it and grabbing their lynchin' ropes.
