Color deficiencies could be correctable in the next 1-3 years, if you can wait out. Last I heard someone in Detroit tested it on mice or something odd like that.

I'm married now and on the path to a career...but I would still take a safe cure for colorblindness any day! :D

So remember kids, when North Korea finally goes batshit crazy and crosses the 38th parallel, cut your ball off so you dont get drafted.

I've been planning to go into the Air Force for a few years now. My plan was to get my B.S.M.E and go to officer training school and enter the Air Force.

I am now 2 months away from graduation and was in the process of filling out paperwork and was informed that I cannot enter the air force due to having my testicle removed. I'm sick to my stomach at the moment because it's a life changing event for me, over something rather trivial IMO. I'll spare every one the sob story and continue.

It was found to be un-descended during a physical and I had the surgery to remove it a few years ago so it didn't turn into cancer. I did not get an implant.

The recruited told me that it's a definite no. There are NO medical waivers for it.

It's late in the day and no other recruiting offices are picking up, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about OTHER branches of the military and if their protocol is the same.

Thanks for you time.

I feel for ya buddy. I was actually IN the US Navy, at A-school, another 14 months of school to go (had already had 6 months invested in advanced electronics) - and WHAM - heart murmur found at a routine medical. Thrown back into civilian life just like that. I think I made out alright, but I really didn't want it to happen that way. Mine happened to be a fairly serious thing that somehow never got caught.

You might want to speak to someone at your local MEPS center as recrutiers aint the brightest.

Not saying don't ask MEPS, but:

1. Recruiters generally know more than MEPS overall

2. Recruiters WANT to get you in the service, so if you can get in they will find a way. MEPS doesn't care so much.

3. Recruiters are not stupid. In fact, they are generally chosen because they are successful NCO's. They don't just send their trash to recruit.

I feel for you OP, that's a bummer, but I do understand the policy. However, I have the same question as PIA. What if you were to lose a testicle during combat? Medical discharge, or a deskjob, what?

I know a guy that lost a ball in Vietnam. I'm not sure if that was his first injury or not though. He went over for 2 tours if I remember right, and was injured 2 or 3 times. I think in a war, they'll keep anyone who is trained, and wants to be there.

Edit:
I was just going through old email, and it was 3 tours, wounded 5 times.

sounds ridiculous. Lance Armstrong only has one ball and seems to be in pretty good shape, and pretty manly.

if this policy is due to tranny fear, as ridiculous a charge as that is, just tell them that they are discriminating against a recovered cancer patient. fuck those a-holes.

Well, if you can take the attention, start your own media frenzy. Make a web site, call local papers and TV stations, hell get ahold of Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, whoever.

It's a travesty that needs to be addressed. You want to serve our country, why should something so utterly unrelated to ability wipe you out like that?

especially when you consider how desperate they are for recruits, no?

Just to give you some words of encouragement.

My cousin who is a Marine got honorably discharged right after successfully completing the Crucible.

He didn't get any benefits and never went to his infantry school. Due to Severe Shin Splints.

He has the title of Marine but no military benefits..imagine that.

They're not desperate at all. The air force is actually raising their standards at the moment, and probably pretty unwilling to give out waivers. Air force usually doesn't have issues getting recruits and it's even moreso now.

I'm surprised someone hasn't sued them yet.

Ummmm, probably because the law doesnt allow you to sue them?
No really, I'm not kidding. Theres about a hundred and one civil suits that happen every day in America which cannot be used against the DoD.
How do people not know this stuff? I knew it before I joined.

Yeah, I got that. If only he could have kept his mouth shut.

French Foreign Legion. No balls required. :D

I've dealt with hardarses for a long time and i can tell you, the FL soldiers are REAL hardarses, i'd rather have them covering me than some wimpy omg soldier now marines which don't even have basic training these days.

In the FL you get to jog 10 miles with full packing, where i'm from it's 30 miles, in the marines they are happy to get them up to half a mile before shipping them out.

Yeah, all you need is a sheitload of EPO and you'll be just fine, just like Lance.

I admire you OP, it takes a lot of balls to post something like this in a public forum.

Seriously though, sorry about your luck. I'd been planning and training for the military for my junior and senior year of high school. I enlisted and was disqualified from the job I wanted due to partial color blindness. Luckily I was able to get out, but it was a huge blow, that's what I had planned on doing with my life. Don't worry, everything happens for a reason. There's something better for you out there.

Well, it is the Air Force. They're not exactly hurting for officers. They can make up reasons to disqualify people and still have sufficient numbers.

If you were planning on doing engineering in the Air Force, you can still work for the Air Force as a civilian. I did that for a while at Wright-Patterson AFB. Half my coworkers were civilian and half were air force. The only difference was we didn't have to wear uniforms or salute to people.

People are bitching about 'gay rights,' in the military, and bull shit like this is still allowed?

Lol, no military branch is desperate. I looked up the numbers a while back, and all branches have been meeting recruiting goals 100-110%...I was surprised too.

God damn man, i didn't know that.

We lost one good man right there, but if you'd like, PM me regarding your applied position and i'll ask my friends to check out what you can apply and qualify for.

They lowered the qualification standards in 03, that is why.

Trust me, there are a lot of people who wouldn't qualify for a mall guard in any other nation that qualify for service in the US.

The reputations regarding gangsta marines has not come undeserved.

I don't know where you're getting your experiences from, but even NonCom MOSes in the Army had to do a 15k full battle rattle march at range-walk speeds to graduate Basic everywhere from Knox to Jackson.

I know Marines train to an even higher standard than that of NonCom Army MOSes like mine, hell my unit(being a medical unit) has lots of females and we still do quite a bit of physical fitness like full battle rattle litter runs since we males have to hit infantry standards of PT.

The standards have been lowered in the past, but it's recently gone back up AFAIK. I personally know of a TraDoc unit that graduated only 80% of it's soldiers from basic training recently as the branches have enjoyed becoming over-force.
