Disqualification from Military

I've been planning to go into the Air Force for a few years now. My plan was to get my B.S.M.E and go to officer training school and enter the Air Force.

I am now 2 months away from graduation and was in the process of filling out paperwork and was informed that I cannot enter the air force due to having my testicle removed. I'm sick to my stomach at the moment because it's a life changing event for me, over something rather trivial IMO. I'll spare every one the sob story and continue.

It was found to be un-descended during a physical and I had the surgery to remove it a few years ago so it didn't turn into cancer. I did not get an implant.

The recruited told me that it's a definite no. There are NO medical waivers for it.

It's late in the day and no other recruiting offices are picking up, so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about OTHER branches of the military and if their protocol is the same.

Thanks for you time.

This is protocol for every single branch of US military. With only one nut, you will not ever serve in the US's armed services.

I'm sorry holmes. I know how much it means to you. I was in the same boat for different medical reasons right out of high school. Marines said no even though I scored pretty high on the test and found out that no branch would take me for allergies, asthma, and bad knees even though out of high school I was in excellent shape.

Have a . Hope it helps.

Wtf? I want to know the reasoning behind this. I guess you're only half a man in their eyes, OP.

Good luck to you. I was going in the Army when I was pulled aside during my physical. they twisted my knee a little and just like that I was permanently disqualified from any military service.

You want to know the irony of it all? I was living on an air force base when I injured my knee. My dad could not get the doctors to repair my knee because we were not military. I had to wait 8 months before getting stateside to have surgery. By then I think it was permanently damaged. I did have surgery but had to wait 6 months afterwards before I could try to get back in. It never healed right I guess.

The hell? What would this have to do with being able to serve in the military? In particular the Air Force of all branches being more technical/support oriented rather than pure ground pounding like Marines or Army, they shouldn't fuss over such a non-issue.

As to a definite answer to your query, I have no clear answer, have you tried going to a different recruiting office? Maybe the guy you talked to was just an orifice.

Best wishes.

sounds like total bullshit.

ask another recruiter about it and then their reasoning for disqualifying you over it. it's not a handicap.

hell, you can still perform sexually and still have kids! and that isn't even the military's concern.

The recruiter told me something along the lines of it being a health risk in later stages of life/service.

Yeah but probably 10x less of a health risk than regular moderate to heavy drinking, which easily half of servicemen/women engage in.

This 'rule' is ten kinds of bullshit.

You can pursue it further. Also, get a doctors note (lol) explaining why it was removed and that it didn't fuck you up in the head (seriously).

If your family doctor can prove you're still a functional human being, there shouldn't be an issue.

Interesting, I was look at the army list for PDQ (http://www.military.com/Recruiting/Content/0,13898,rec_step07_DQ_medical,,00.html) and it says if both testicles are missing that is a pdq or if you have an undescended testicle. Doesn't say anything about having an undescended testicle surgically fixed.

This site from the Navy info says its okay if its been surgincally fixed or you were born that way.

http://www.navycs.com/blogs/2008/08/13/medical-not-waiverable

Undescended testicle unless surgically removed or confirmed to be congenital absence

I mean seriously...I can see why a Catholic priest would care and not allow you to be an alter boy, but not being able to join the military because you're missing a nut? Strange.....

At least you can't be drafted?

Hypothetical: What if you were in the military but had your testicle shot off?

Well, if you can take the attention, start your own media frenzy. Make a web site, call local papers and TV stations, hell get ahold of Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, whoever.

It's a travesty that needs to be addressed. You want to serve our country, why should something so utterly unrelated to ability wipe you out like that?

it is a very rigorous qualifying exam that the medical staff put you through while they determine your ability to not break down.

I can hyper extend both my elbows and the doctors immediately picked up on it while I was at MEPS doing the various drills they ask of you. I was pulled aside and scrutinized and given a "Go" so i was able to enter.

Others were yanked, and many more in boot camp did not survive due to medical issues. I suppose they do this to protect themselves from paying out massive disability benefits to people ho had preexisting conditions. Military spends a lot of money training you so they want to ensure you do not break down and exit early.

Not so sure on why having only 1 testicle would be a issue though..........

You might want to speak to someone at your local MEPS center as recrutiers aint the brightest.
