Disposing PC parts

I?m throwing out some old motherboards, cards, memory and CRT?s. What?s the best and easiest responsible way to go about it? Should I just put them in the recycle bin?

If these are working parts, I'd start with Freecycle. Someone who likes to tinker around might pick up the entire box.

Do you really want a broken 15" CRT and a burnt out MB & PS?

Depending on the city you live in, Goodwill may have an e-cycle program established. Check there first, you can drop off even non-working stuff & if they cannot use they will recycle in a responsible manner.

Here in Michigan several counties around me have a hazardous waste disposal program that runs a couple times a year. You can take some electronics\batteries\ink carts\household chemicals\etc and they will get rid of them properly. You may want to check with your city\county environmental health department to see if they have something similar. Though you may have to ask around becasue I thing the drain commission runs one of the programs up here.

Definitely check with your county. Around here there is a once a month county haz mat disposal. The city also has a "spring cleaning day" once a year also. Not that the city seems to pick up much since the scavenger trucks comb the area those weeks.
