I'm not even sure this is the right forum, but screw it.

I just got a displayport-only monitor off of woot, and my only graphics card is an ATI 3850 (which outputs dvi). I bought a DP to DVI adapter, and while I ended up with the right number of male and female plugs the monitor doesn't seem to be getting a signal.

So, either this DP to DVI adapter won't also do DVI to DP, or something is broken. I've searched for DVI to DP, but Amazon is showing me everything from HDMI to VGA down to DP to DP. Also DP can either be passive or active.

Trying to figure out this adapter crap is giving me a headache, so I'm just going to defer to you guys before I buy some other adapter that doesn't work.

Which type of DVI connection does your ATI 3850 have? And which kind is the DVI connection does your DVI to DP have? That maybe the issue... also if you don't mind me asking what is the Model# of the monitor and resolution type?

Card outputs DVI-I dual, adapter 1 has pins for DVI-A. Monitor is HP Elite L2201x. The second adapter is actually this. Yes it converts to VGA. The monitor I had been using doesn't have any DVI inputs so I had a dvi-vga adapter and only a VGA cable, therefore I looked for a DP to VGA cable. I left it out of the OP because it didn't seem to matter, but now I am not so sure.
