Display Problems Win98SE

I recently put together a PC for my wife with very good spare parts. After I installed all the equipment, I powered up the PC and a Dialog Box came up to check the monitor or video card. I had in the system an AGP Viper 550 16 meg, when the dialog box came up. I thought it might be the agp, so I installed a PCI STB 4meg video card instead of the agp card. The same dialog box came up. I disconnected the video cable from each video card and the dialog box still comes up.

I tried to bypass the harddrive thinking some software might be incompitable. I used a Win 98SE startup disk, but the dialog box still comes up. I moved the "new Pc133 memory" to my other computer and it worked just find. Any suggestions.

Explain what you mean by dialogue box? I assume you are not referring to a Windows pop-up box.

Are you getting a signal from your monitor, I suspect you are talking about the monitors own message, on a blank screen?

I am guessing your monitor (or cable, don't really know) is broken. The box means it's not receiving a signal from your video card (the dialogue box is from the monitor itself right?).

Your monitor is not getting any video signal from the PC. I really doubt it has anything to do with the monitor, and I'm positive its is not a win98se problem. Sounds like you have set up something wrong when building the PC. Reseat all components, reset bios, double check jumper settings, etc. If these dont work, start testing each part on your other computer to see what is not working right.
