display port question

i just ordered a new monitor and it uses display port. i have a 1080ti i will hook up to it. this monitor has built in speakers that i do not want in use since i have headphones. will i have to disable anything or is it going to be playing audio out of them if i do not disable something cause i dont want it to play audio. thanks
 
you just need to set the primary sound device to whatever the headphones are attached to... basically the same as HDMI as far as this functionality goes
 
i'd say either DP or HDMI is fine for 1080p... similar performance; as you approach 4k you will run into some limiting factors though. both DP 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 support 4K @60Hz refresh and I believe the max length is like 5 or 6m. Been awhile since I looked at the official standard notes.
