Display issue with Studio 17

I'm facing an intermittent problem with my Studio 17. I switch it on, mostly from a hibernation state. So the Windows 7 login screen comes up and I type in my credentials. After that, the screen goes dark. The backlight is still on, but the display goes blank. I then have to hibernate the machine by pressing the power button. When it comes up again, 8 times out of ten, the display will now come up fine or I might have to repeat the process once more. I sometimes face this issue when the display switches itself off due to power saving settings. When I wake the display by pressing a key or the mouse, the display will be blank with the backlight on. Then I have repeat the whole damn process - press the power button, hibernate it, and keeping fingers crossed, switch it on. I've had this issue since I bought the laptop 8 months ago. Is it a problem with the drivers? I somehow dont believe its a sinister h/w problem. The display adapter is on-die Intel. I am not sure which. The processor is an i3 330. Rest is run of the mill hardware. 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB hdd, etc etc..

What seems to be the problem here?

I would guess it's the video drivers. Go to support.dell.com and plug in your service tag to get the latest video driver available for your model. Which specific model is your 17 - 1735, 1737, 1749?

I tried that. But certified (by Dell) drivers have not been released for my model yet. Its a 1749. Is there any way I can download driver files from intel and then force upgrade my laptop?

Hi,

You could also quit using Hibernate... Just try puuting to sleep instead or just turn it off... See if that works. A lot o people have been having problems with Hibernate.
