My HTPC recently died and I found a pretty good deal on ebay with a system with the following components:

Hauppauge Tuner Card 1045 PCI Interface - Retail
Intel Celeron D 336 Prescott 2.8GHz LGA 775 84W Single-Core Processor Model BX80547RE2800CN - Retail
GIGABYTE GN-WP01GS PCI Wireless Adapter - Retail
Antec Solution Series NSK2400 Black/Silver Steel MicroATX Desktop Computer Case 380W ATX12V v2.0 Power Supply - Retail
BIOSTAR P4M800-M7 LGA 775 VIA P4M800 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
WINTEC AMPO 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory Model 35145588-P - Retail

I was able to swap the HD over and pretty much everything works. I'm connecting video to my TV using VGA. The system has an ATI card installed in a AGP slot however I can only get video output from the VGA port built into the motherboard. How do I go about telling the system to use the ATI card for display.

I found this in the documentation for the motherboard:

AGP1: Accelerated Graphics Port Slot Your monitor will attach directly to that video card. This motherboard supports video cards for PCI slots, but it is also equipped with an Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP). An AGP card will take advantage of AGP technology for improved video efficiency and performance, especially with 3D graphics.

And this in the doc for the BIOS:

INIT DISPLAY FIRST
With systems that have multiple video cards, this option determines whether the primary display uses a PCI Slot or an AGP Slot. The Choices: PCI Slot (default), AGP.

I've tried setting INIT DISPLAY FIRST to both "PCI Slot" and "AGP" and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I also attached a PC monitor via DVI to the port on the ATI card, disconnected the VGA that was going to the port on the motherboard and rebooted. Still no output from the ATI card.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

Did you install drivers for the agp card?

If you did that then maybe go into bios and disable on board video. Might be option on which to use?

Disable the onboard video before trying to use the AGP card, and plug directly into the agp card.
If that doesn't work, try reseating the AGP card in its slot. If that doesn't work, the AGP card or slot might be dead.

boot into windows using the onboard VGA and uninstall the Via Chrome IGP graphics drivers before you switch to the ATI card. It seems Windows may still be set on trying to use that card. Also then install the ATI drivers so you can specify whether or not to use DVI or the VGA on the ATI card. Analog VGA is usually the default so use that until you can switch it to DVI.

What ATI card? Do you have the latest mobo BIOS?

I hope you got a killer deal on those components. The VIA mobo is old technology.

I paid about $70 for all of it shipped so I think I got a good deal.

The card that came with it must be dead. I plugged in an ATI Radeon 9800 PRO and it worked but only with DVI. I then plugged in an NVIDIA 5200 and that worked with the VGA port.
