when you install the driver.do you choose the recommended install or custom...is this what your doing
Sorry, I must have missed that message. We've been a bit distracted here in Paris lately. :\
I always choose recommended, to be honest and I have often been told to not pick and choose elements of the install but rather to allow nvidia to install everything it wants. HD Audio is something I'd like to have but if 3D means actual 3D with glasses, then no I have no interest or hardware for that. If it means 3D galing graphics then yes, I need it. I'll try reinstalling the card but I'll have to find a way to get out of safe mode again.

am really starting to think the gpu is wrong
Ok, rebooted and it loaded into system restore mode. Did a system restore to 2 days ago, it booted fine. But I'm in 640*480 mode. Do you have any idea how hard it is to use Windows like this? 🙂

I'll try to install the drivers again, clean.

UPDATE: No dice, I'm back where I started. It's not 640X480 anymore but this isn't improving. I think I'm looking for a new card now. I have a post over here with my needs if anyone wants to suggest anything. But do so in the other thread so they don't overlap.

i recommend getting one of the earlier drivers and seeing if that makes a difference.

had a similar issue with an ati card...
oh you have not installed a beta driver on it check this fact

Do you have any data in the C\Windows\Minidump folder? It might be good to see what they are pointing to. But ....

If it were me in this point, I would install Windows on another hard drive or another partition (if another drive wasn't available) and see if it runs, drivers and everything. That would be the fastest way for me to find out of it is the video card going south, or a software problem.

Ok, I will try that.

I do have three files in minidump. Have no idea what that is though.
With respect to installing Windows elsewhere, I have plenty of spare HDDs, but when I wanted to install my version of Windows on this current C drive I had to contact MS because I have an OEM version which can't just be installed on different HDDs again and again. So, that would be a huge pain for me to have to call them just for this test.
I'll try the original disk and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll be shopping for a new card. The problem with installing anything is that I can hardly ever get the computer into anything but Safe with networking like right now. And I think installing is a problem if you do that.

+1 and the last one try older driver.http://www.geforce.com/drivers

You will have several days to activate, so installing your current version on a new drive won't be a problem. Just leave the key space blank during setup, and it will continue. Do not look for any Windows/ Microsoft updates. Internet access will be fine during the "trial" period.

i dont know if you peop`s are aware but nvidia made changes to their drivers..although this may not be the cause of the problem..but they dropped one of the video features recently..i cannot remember exactly because i run all ati cars ..but i will get a gt-670 or alike to put into my intell box...

all good get some ZZzzz

Hey guys, I'll try the original disk tomorrow. It's 3AM here and i should go to bed but i wanted to say thank you for your help. I'll see what happens with the original disk tomorrow. 🙂

Sigh... 😕

The original disk gives me an error saying that there are no drivers on the disk that correspond to my hardware.
