I personally think a small percentage of cops are truly assholes, it's just the bulk of the rest of them are either of questionable moral character or, more likely, simply lack the backbone or have not been given the tools to do what's right, which is why they will quite happily watch another cop break the law and they do nothing at all to report it. They are simply human and people tend to not want to rock the boat, so they are content enough to watch another cop act in a criminal manner and do nothing about it because it's basically a huge hassle.

Probably true. But when you have power above the rest you need to be better.

Leaving aside all the issues of hierarchy and insubordination, the cops in this case that turned their backs to their boss De Blasio at the funeral are also idiots.

If the training and the actions of police are problematic, and need to be addressed (as many others believe they do), this fact is not changed by a single maniac who goes out and kills two cops. Nor does pointing out problems within the police department make De Blasio or the protestors in any way responsible for the actions of the murderer.

This is just another retarded example of the "You're with us or against us mentality." It is perfectly possible to oppose police misconduct and to also support the police themselves against acts of violence and criminality. I see no contradiction in mourning for these two officers, on the one hand, and still calling for better policing and a reduction in police shootings and killing, on the other. That the police union and these cops apparently can't make such distinctions tells us quite a bit about their mentality.

Yeah. Shit is heating up. Here's another one from New York last week.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/new-threat-alleged-against-nypd/

NEW YORK -- The NYPD says a Queens man was arrested Wednesday after police received a 911 call from another man who said he overheard someone talking on his cell phone about killing cops, and saying he had guns at his home, CBS New York reported.

Police said they circulated a description of the suspect and started canvassing the area near where the call came from. According to the New York Daily News, the man making the threat had been overheard at a bank in the Middle Village section of Queens.

The paper says ultimately police found the man matching the suspect's description about a mile away, getting into a car.

There, they arrested 38-year-old Elvin Payamps, who was allegedly spotted with a bag of marijuana, CBS New York reported.

A search of Payamp's home turned up a shotgun, pistol, two bulletproof vests and brass knuckles, police said.

He faces weapons and drug charges.

Multiple reports say at least six people have been arrested for making threats against New York City police since Saturday when NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were ambushed and killed in their patrol car in Brooklyn.

Look at what the police have done since de Blasio said that his son needed to take special care in his interactions with police:

- Circulated a petition asking de Blasio not to attend the funeral of any officer killed in the line of duty

- Released a public statement saying that de Blasio is partially responsible for the recent murder of those two officers

- Chartered a plane to fly around the city trailing a banner attacking the mayor

- Orchestrated a plan to turn their backs to the mayor in a nationally publicized funeral for the two murdered cops (this last one was particularly tasteless)

I mean they aren't shooting at the guy or anything, but in political terms this is about as much as I can think they could do to attack the mayor. All because he said something that most people agree is 100% true.

Does that seem like a reasonable response to you?

Nope, cops for the most part are assholes. I know too many personally to justify that statement. There are no Serpicos or Barney Millers, just mostly assholes.
