Disney raises park prices, suspends sales of new SoCal passes

The pass that lets locals in on Sundays is available only to renewals. The $4 boost at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure is about the same as previous hikes, which usually happen about once a year.

Disneyland theme park posted its new higher prices Sunday with a one-day, one-park ticket for visitors 10 and older going to $96 from $92.

It also suspended new sales of its popular Southern California annual passport because of crowds.

The $4 boost at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure is about the same as previous hikes, which usually happen about once a year.

Single-day ticket prices have more than doubled since 2003.

The increase comes as the Disneyland Resort is experiencing strong growth. Since Cars Land opened as part of the Disney California Adventure makeover in June 2012, Disney has often reported record attendance during its quarterly reports.

The increase worries one of the park’s regular visitors.

“I have been coming out here as a chaperone for Williams High School since 2002, and it’s always worth it,” Ann Wells of Williams, Ariz., said Sunday. “But I also have a daughter and a granddaughter who live out here, and taking them to Disneyland for the day at these prices, it’s getting cost-prohibitive.”

Sorry dave, can you atleast go to the neighborhood hooker that lives next door to you. She'll give your disgusting fatass a ride for a couple bucks. Do you think you could afford that?

Well they may as well soak some more money out of the rich since lowly regular working Americans can't afford to go there anymore.
Great! The less smelly, poor people in line the better.

If poor people spent more time working and less time at theme parks, they might not be as poor.

OP now you're just whining. A trip to Disney isn't a necessary part of anyone's life. Until people stop going they will keep raising the price. It is just that simple and its capitalism at its most basic.

Yep, if they reach "sell out" and people can't get in, then prices aren't high enough.

What disney really needs to start doing is demand based pricing. $100 to go on Sat/Sun during Summer, $90 for M-F during summer, $80 off-peak (or something).

This, exactly. Lots of relatively poor people save up to take the kids to Disney, which is as it should be. It's meant to be a special experience, not a weekly thing.

If Disney cut the price to $10 so that everyone could go at will, they'd have tons of people there, be at occupancy limits all the time, and everyone there would be miserable trying to stand in line for hours and maneuver through mosh pit-density crowds.

Isn't that kind of the experience now? I'll be honest I'm not looking to taking our four kids there but know we will have to do it at some point. We're waiting until the youngest is a bit older so we can make it a single trip.

Yes, but it could be worse (if they lowered pricing w/o regard to capacity limits).

I can't bring myself it spend $600 bucks just in tickets and then wait in a line for 3 hours for one 5 minute ride.

Fastpass is da bomb.

Plus we went in October. One big line for the Dumbo ride when we first got there, then nothing more than 10-15 minutes the rest of the day.

Close enough to keep me away. Part of the beauty of being a grandparent is being able to avoid things like this. Although full disclosure, as a child I got to go twice. Once was in a periodic light rain; the park was almost deserted with no real lines for anything, so it was great. The second was the last; every ride was a 2.5 to 3 hour wait. That broke me.

My wife grew up in SoCal, so she went to Disneyland all the time with her family as a child. I had the experience a couple years back with them, and while it was certainly interesting, it's ultimately kind of a lackluster experience. Granted, they were positively giddy with nostalgia while we went on rides that are meant to be exciting to 8-year-olds, and without that history, it's just boring... But the big coaster wasn't bad and the Wonderful World of Color show is fantastic.

As for the OP; Disney is a corporation with the intent of making money. They aren't under any obligation to provide low-cost entrance. It's not like going to Disneyland is a fundamental right that poor people are being deprived of. Boo-hoo, prices are too high... DON'T GO! Jesus God, you complain about the most insignificant shit.

It's quite simple, costs go up, wages do not.

Maybe if we did not import a million new workers every year.

I can't understand why you have to. I never did with my kids and as far as I can tell they aren't scarred by it. Truth is that they won't care nearly as much as you think they do unless you create an expectation of this being a right.

Do something else.

Good point. It's not a necessity or a utility, so I have no problem with Disney charging whatever they want. The only reason they can charge $96 is because parents convinced themselves or were convinced by Disney's marketing that they are robbing their kids of childhood if they don't take them to a Disney theme park. But kids grew up just fine, maybe even better, without Disney theme parks. A bit less of the "princess" mentality wouldn't hurt the next generation.
