This pc is to be designed as a multitasking beast. I want this baby to purr while I am listening to music, gaming, with torrrents running in the background, word, firefox (tabbed out) and editing pictures.

I would like this build to be effective a few years from now maybe with only the need for a graphics card change or two. My budget is fairly open ended but I would like to be practical and keep the cost relatively within the price of the parts I am considering now:

DFI nf4 ultra
x2 4400+
2x1 gb OCZ value
2x 160 gb seagate sata 7200.7 NCQ (already bought- $50 each @ frys)
hammer 16x dvd writer ($45 @ frys made of panasonic parts)
silverstone tj06 (prefer the look to the p180, try to sell me though)
antec truecontrol 550w
2005fpw (sell me on the 2405 but i dont know if i can justify the price premium)
mx 518

discuss!

Rule #1 : Post in the right section ;)

That said, the Silverstone TJ-06 and the Lian Li PC1000 are the two best cases that money can buy. Of course, you pay the premium as well. I would say drop down to the Antec P180, and put that money towards a 2405FPW. The P180 is a helluva lot quieter, and the dual-fan exhaust offers you more cooling power than the TJ-06. Also, if you spend the $10 on another fan, and put it in the front, you can cool your hard drives and overall system with some fresh air from the outside. The 2405FPW is the Rolls-Royce of monitors. It looks good, and it looks good, if you catch my drift. The monitor itself has dazzling color and a huge viewable area. Also, it just looks damn good sitting on your desk. :)

Grasshopper, I have already dismantled your video card from your system.
It was all too easy.

(sell me on the 2405 but i dont know if i can justify the price premium)

The monitor justifies the premium upon first sight.
The video card should wait until this 520 is released (and watch prices move to a better price point).

That case looks pretty nice, but I prefer smaller cases.

The dfi boards are great for oc'ing but a bit short on options compared to some of the other boards from msi or asus. Make sure your happy with the number of pci-, pci-e slots, usb ports, sata ports (and onboard audio quality if you wont be using a soundcard).

X2 is the only way to go for multitasking and gaming, great for photoshop.

Get some mem with tight timings 2-2-2-5. I love the ocz platinum rev2, good timings and they oc well with looser timings. Good mem is worth its $ imho.

Case cooling is important, an intakefan blowing over the hd's is recommended. Improves lifetime and operating soundlevels. If your casetemp is to high it can limit your oc. Even when not oc'ing and going for silence, adding some silent casefans can end up being quieter since the cpu fan can spin at lower speeds.

Getting a 23" or 24" widescreen monitor is worth it for several reasons. The available room is great for multitasking and photo-editing. I think a screen for gaming can never be big enough. And these screens have a resolution of 1920x1200 wich means you will be able to watch 1080p HD content in all its glory. The widescreen aspect ratio makes it great in general for watching movies and dvd's. I have a tv-tuner card and dont bother getting a real tv. Saves me space and money.

Consider the logitech laser mice for more precision if you think it mathers.
