Hey guys I just tried CCalverts dnet client and its great(Nice and easy to setup, good job dude 🙂). Anyway is there anyway you can reconfigure the client after its started? and can you update the buffers manually?

I haven't used his distro, but I'll assume it operates as Linux does.

To update manually, just move to a different terminal (ctrl, alt and one of the "F" keys-not sure how many TTY's he has in his client), login and change directories so that you're in the directory where the RC5 client is located, and run dnetc -update, or -flush if you just wanted to flush.

To edit the configuration, I don't know. Might need a text editor, and I doubt these little distros have enough space to have one built in. Not sure on that; we probably need one of our Linux gurus in here.🙂

Wulf: Could you have inserted a floppy that contained vi and made the changes to the ini file?
 
I dont think so. Looking at the instructions for running the client you really cant do anything once its configured and running(not positive though).

You should be able to fetch/flush/update any time you need to, unless it's completely different than Klinux or Freesco.

Klinux is also a single, bootable floppy. Freesco, I use two floppies; one the distro, the other the client. Klinux has seven terminals and Freesco has three.

In any case, though, it should not preclude you from logging in to another terminal, unless it only has one to begin with.

Okay, I just downloaded ccalvert's disk and booted a node with it. It does, indeed, only have one terminal, so it looks as if there is no way to manually fetch/flush. Nice piece of work, though.🙂

May I butt in to your thread here? 😉

I don't know about CCalvert's distro.
Do you have to log-in as Root?

But you should be able to Ctrl C to stop the client, and then do dnetc -config and reconfigure it.
Then just dnetc again to start it.

If you have to log in as root, to use the distro, you'll have to do ./dnetc -config, and ./dnetc to start it back up.
The Ctrl C part is the same no matter what user you are logged in as.


Russ, I'm still waiting on that nic, to test on (though I'm sure It'll work) before publishing my "New Improved Klinux".

8 different versions (not counting the personals) for 486 up to 686 with and without DHCP auto network configuration.

New scripts to help the "Newbie" through the whole process (even without reading the README.txt passed the point of making the floopy image 😉.
Everything on screen (I'm proud of myself for that one, even though it wasn't to hard after learning how 😉)

I've pretty much got everything already to go.

The disk has no login at all; no commands available at all. The only way to shutdown or restart is the power switch or reset button.

I think I may have REALLY screwed up the address on the NIC (actually, the clerk at the post office did). Don't ask me how, but I think it's on it's way to PA, not IA.🙁 I'll probably have to ship another.

That won't be untill Monday though. 🙁

I mean, while compiling the kernel with the development drivers, it's there, plain as day RealTek 8129/8139.
I don't see how it could be missed, unless you were blind. 😉

PS. I hope that Kilowatt over in PA enjoys his brand new nic. 😱
