I have them both. I can't remember if Version 7 has "set it and forget it".

If it doesn't, then 8 is worth it because, properly set up it will defragment whenever necessary.

If 7 has "set it and forget it" then it probably is not worth it.

Set It and Forget It is horrible. Nothing like playing a game late at night then having the system crawl because it starts defragging.

I`ve mine set to defrag in screensaver mode with Diskeeper 8,I think Diskeeper 8 is better then version 7,as to if its worth upgrading to,well that`s always a hard question to answer since it`s really down to the users personal opinion.

I can answer your last question,no problems at all with my Diskeeper 8.

fair enough then let me put it another way:
i know 8 is faster than 7 but is the defragging engine more effient or different in any other way?

i do find "gaps" in the files/directories map after the full boot-time and win defrag with 7 so if 8 does it even better i might get it...
