Yesterday i installed Windows XP pro SP2 in a new hard disk with a new SATA and POWER cable.

After installation i have worked
When i worked my system got freeze and my mouse pointer moved very slowly.
I finished my work and shut down my system.

then today morning i switched on my system
i got the error message "A disk Read error" press "CTRL+ALT+DEL" to restart.

then once again i tried to do fresh install windows XP ..

during setup it had copied all the files and restarted to install xp but when my system restarted its shows the windows XP loading page then an blue screen came after that no process carried on its still shown the empty blue screen

One my friend insisted me to install Ubuntu.

I tried installing Ubuntu freshly
and successfully installed. now i didn't get any error message.

now ubuntu is working properly without any error message while loading.

now this is the situation.
What is the problem?
please help me out to solve the problem..

without knowing exact make and model of all hardware in the system, not sure what the issue is.

Sounds like your hard drive is failing. The only reason Ubuntu is probably working is because it is far less sensitive to hardware failures than windows is. Hence the reason technician's like myself use linux during data recovery.

I would test your hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic utilities.

OK let put all the model of all hardware in the system:

INTEL 945 G CL CHIP SET
INTEL CORE 2 DUO PROCESSOR
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 250 GB SATA HARD DISK
KINGSTON 1GB DDR RAM
SONY DVD-R/W OPTICAL DRIVE

i think this is enough to solve the problem..

Or you need any other thing..

you might need to load up sata drivers when you install xp. i think you can hit f6 when you boot from the xp cd to load your own custom drivers or you can use nlite to customize ur installer and include the sata drivers.

hirens boot cd and the ultimate boot cd have utilities you can run if you want to test your hd.

how we can assume that its an hard disk error?

when i leave the system off for 5 or 6 hours after that "disk read error" occurs then once again i can able to boot into windows without any problem. while working my hard disk becomes hot when i restart at that time once again Disk read error occurs.

please analyze and say what may be the problem?

if the correct drivers from the Motherboard CD were not copied to a floppy disk and the F6 option was not used, then the issue is the drivers the system is using natively are the issue, just user error, copy the SATA controller drivers onto a floppy (XP only reads a floppy when the F6 option is used), and wipe the HDD clean and properly reinstall XP.

now i installed an windows XP which has built in SATA driver.

Installation went properly and i installed when i worked on my system got freeze sometimes.

And now i got new error message "Disk error please press any key to restart"

If i shutdown my system for few hours then i can able to boot without any problem. If i use for long time then if i restart my system means once again the error is coming..

What is causing this error? Can someone analyze and tell?
