Disk drive question - trying to add a drive

I have one 120GB PATA WD drive installed, and a second one I'm trying to add.

The pinout diagram I saw for the drive always has a pin on the jumpers - but my installed drive, somehow, has no pin on the jumpers at all, yet it runs.

When I try to add the second drive set up as a secondary drive (I forget the terminology, a slave or secondary or whatever), it doesn't work.

I'm thinking of getting a pin, putting it on the installed drive where it should be as a master drive, and hoping it keeps working and add the second drive.

Any other tips? I'm surprised it is working at all without the pin.

Strangly enough I was reading the manual on my new Maxtor drive as I found your post. I am on my jumper page, and it shows master as jumper position left, slave as no jumper, and cable slective as jumper on second from the left. hope that helps.

I am going to try installing my second drive as cable selct jumper setting, which is what my drive came set up. Wish me luck 🙂
