Disk drive not getting recognized

When I booted up my pc and went to "My Computer" my second disk drive was not recognized. The only way that i can get it to recognize is by doing so manually by right clicking , selecting properties, hardware then device manager. I then have it check for any new hardware and it finds it. Why doesnt it recognize it from the start?

I just finished setting up my computer with two hitachi deskstar 80 gb hardrives on RAID config.

I have already checked BIOS and it says that both are recognized. Thank you for any information you can provide.

So if the 2 HD's are in raid and are all set up as one drive, you will only see one drive letter in My Computer - one 160 gig HD.

Thanks everyone for your help. I was able to fix it by setting them each to their own channel. 🙂
Once again Thank You. 🙂
