Having some issues. The source disk has a recovery partition, plus the main Windows 7 partition is nearly full (26GB free).

I tried cloning it with an Apricorn kit using their EZ-Gig software (make sure to download the updated version, the CD included in the package didn't work right).

It said it successfully cloned it, but then when I tried to boot the clone, it tried to do a CHKDSK when it was booting, said it couldn't get direct access to the HDD, then it tried to boot Win7, and it just sits at a black screen with a mouse cursor. Tbe HDD led is blinking, but slowly, not being hammered like it should be at bootup with an SSD.

Interestingly, it will boot in Safe Mode.

So that failed, so I connected my SSD with Win7, and a fresh WD 500GB HDD to my AMD Thuban rig, and downloaded WD Acronis TI edition, and installed it. Connected the laptop 500GB HDD, and the Seagate 480GB HDD, and interestingly enough, with the Seagate (EZ Gig clone) connected, but booting off of my 240GB SSD with Win7 64-bit, it came up saying that disk was unclean, to CHKDSK it, and then gave me the error again about not being able to get direct access. How strange.

So I started a clone using TI, and it gave a warning message that the cloned OS might not have enough free disk space to boot properly.

I used Explorer's search dialog, which helpfully has a file size search link, so I searched for >128GB files. There were a few, but not too many.

The source disk is just too darn full, I guess.

So I have it cloning with TI, I'll see if that clone can boot.

I found this link about the "unable to get direct access":

The accepted answer was that they had a bum disk, or something like that. I don't understand how a brand-new Seagate SSD could be bad, if the cloning software is working.

Edit: TI finished, I installed the cloned SSD, and it booted right up!

So what I gathered here, is that "EZ-Gig IV" cloning software has a long way to go, before it can match TI 2013.
