I know there are tons of system utilites and it's been ages since I messed with them or needed them.

But is there a utility that can check for files, directories, dlls, etc.. you name it, anything that is not associated with anything and report it to you so you can remove them?

I know some software uninstallers don't do a very good job of removing stuff, personally I am more concerned with system files getting leftover through out C:Windows\ then anything else and possibly other areas under the Windows directory.

Also I know there are some apps out there that monitor the install process so for the uninstall it will remove everything for you, anyone recommend anything like this as well?

THANKS

Looks pretty good, but I don't think it can find things that a uninstaller for a program left behind. This is what I am most concerned with, applications I have installed previous and since removed and want to make sure in the System all the files installed are removed. I know before XP came along this was a real problem with dlls over writting Windows dlls with their own versions, etc... then when uninstalling having all of these things left laying around, in XP I know file protection is better, but I want to make sure apps I installed before, everything is removed from, C:\WINDOWS and C:\WINDOWS\system32, not so much the Program Files for the users and the Application Data and C:\Program Files\Common Files I can handle digging through these.

I'm more concerned with bad uninstallers leaving things behind under the C:\WINDOWS directory that can be hard to track down.

THANKS

I think I just need a good uninstaller app that monitors installs and will make sure everything is removed.

Crap Cleaner probably the best free utility.

Ace Utilities ($25) is excellent, plus other useful functions.

I keep RegSeeker handy for excellent manual registry-search-and-destroy performance (I don't trust it for automatic cleaning).

I haven't found any other utilites needed for registry-maintenance.

Hope this helps!

Crap Cleaner does not look for unnecessary dlls and it looks like neither does Ace Utilities.

That's probably a biggie from bad uninstallers, leaving behind leftover dlls
