Thanks everyone for help. Guess I will ride my bike "as is" for its entire life time (evaluated at 10 years at the purchasing time) before going to disk brakes.
I just unscrewed the brake pads out and screwed them in again - and the squeak now appears only when braking very hard (near maximum adherence downhill on highway). I can live with that, for the moment. I was however a bit overenthusiastic when fixing them, and they have a bit of contact with the rim. Doesn't matter now, I was going only downhill so it helped :D
I feel emotionally attached :laughing; to the front brake pads - I have them since 2000, they are the original ones. They are not yet half used, so I think I will keep them some time.
I will try that "angled pads" setup - but I don't know if I would be able to made it so.

Thanks again

So, here comes the solution...
Just a few days ago, I heard the awfull sound of steel scrapping the rim, so I checked the pads. To my great despair, I found out that the original pads were used up to the metal supports. I had to put them to sleep, and changed them with some new pads I had somewhere, waiting to replace the other set of pads.
The new pads are quite angled relative to the rim, so now my front brake lever needs to be pulled close to the grips for maximum breaking. But the squak is completely gone :D
