DISK BOOT FAILURE!

Wow, my string of bad luck continues. Last night I lost my backup server / gateway, tonight I lose my main rig.

I have had some problems with my system as of late and I recently tried new memory. After a bluescreen (these are typical right now) with my new memory, I put my old TwinMos memory back in and fire it up. I get this error when trying to boot:

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Normally I'd think I've lost a harddrive, but my Raptor still shows up in bios. I've gotten into the XP system recovery console, but I'm unsure if I actually want to run FIXBOOT C: or not... the drive still shows all of its files. Any suggestions as to how to fix this and/or how this happened in the first place?

There isn't a floppy diskette in the floppy drive by any chance...?

With the stuff that's happening to you, I'm wondering if you've got unstable utility power at your house. It would be interesting to put an AVR-equipped uninterruptible power supply to work and see if it started recording surges and sags.

There's no floppy in the drive (but I've been known to do that before ).

Actually I do have everything important hooked to a UPS with line conditioning (links to an APC BackUPS Pro 1100 at Sam's Club). It only clicks "on" when there is a noticeable power change in the house, which is not very often.

Possible corrupt system files?
Are both your main computer and your server connected - do they share the same Internet connection?

Yes they're connected via a switch (server acts as a gateway). I just ran XP setup on my P4 and it didn't find the Raptor. I'm going to run WD diagnostics on it and see what happens.

changed ram, BSOD, changed back ram, Disk boot failure..

happened to me alot of times, but i didn't think of finding out solution.. i just reformmated

i'd like to know answers too.

*i'd recommend unplugging all IDE/Sata devices, and then power up comp. load default BIOS. connect only main IDE HD and then try booting up again

I'll try that if the WD utils come up with nothing.

My boot drive is the Raptor. XP setup finds my IDE HD.

I swear my computers are haunted. I shut it off for a while as I downloaded the ultimate boot cd. I burned the cd on my server (also alive now for no particular reason). After burning, I turned on my main rig and put the cd in the drive. I just about hit ctrl-alt-del when I saw the XP screen come up (I was expecting to see the UBCD screen). Things are working fine now...
