Put PC together, set up bios, want to format hard drive, keep getting "BOOT DISC ERROR" message with win98se boot disc in drive. When I try a homemade boot disc from win98, says something about I/O. Whats going on?:frown:
is the cd in the drive? do you have cd-rom set as your primary boot device? could you go down the list on how you are trying to install windows (all steps please maybe we can find the problem)
DaiShan, I'm feeling stupid. I thought HD had to be formatted first. OS is not installed yet. I have Floppy set as first boot device and have been using floopy boot disc to attempt to load FDISK and FORMAT programs. Am I all wrong?
If it is a modern mobo, you can set the fist boot device as CDrom and put in your OS. Most all Os's are bootable. It will see it needs formating and will prompt for you to allow it. You can then set it as you like.
