This is great news, I find it funny that this team made a solid stealth game which obviously took at least some inspiration from the Thief series (they even honored Thief in one of the levels with an easter egg) and turned out to be about 29x better than the Thief reboot.

Now the Thief series is basically dead I'm super excited to see more planned content for dishonored, it was designed from the ground up to be played either as stealth or action, but they made the stealth so good that quite frankly it tops most modern stealth-dedicated games by a country mile.

I hope the team has the same kind of freedom in the sequel.

Looks like you have the option to play as Emily Kaldwin (all grown up now) or Corvo.

Didn't show any real gameplay in the E3 demo, but it looks like her powers might be a bit different. Instead of blinking, she had some sort of grappling ability, along with a shadow-form that could crawl along walls.

Really hope they do a good job with this. I'm pretty stoked.

Just FYI the original is on sale on steam right now for £2.50 which is an INSANAE price for both a AAA game and something so well built, if you don't own this already then this is an amazing price to pick the game up for, it's actually too cheap, if you buy it and like it then consider gifting to friends at that price.

The first one was my 2012 GOTY. I even purchased and played through all of the mission DLC, which is rare.

Looking forward to the sequel.

I just bought Dishonored for $5 but I heard it is a short game so I hope it worth it. It been on my Steam wishlist for a while. I doubt I'll ever start it though due to my huge backlog.

It isn't short (you're looking at average 30hrs for GOTY edition and that isn't even "completionist"). I swear half the people giving out game length advice are trying to speedrun everything, gave up halfway through, or have very screwed up comparisons when 7-8hr Crysis 3 is declared "well worth it due to the sparkly bits" but 20-30hr solid stealth games are declared "short". o_O The game is definitely worth playing and unlike many "buy our DLC!" cheap cash-in games, The Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches are pretty damn good that actually feel like old school expansion packs worth the money.

As for Dishonored 2, I hope to God they don't screw it up like so many other sequels with a multi-year gap between them whose gameplay has been radically altered for the "casual audiences" (like console gamers wanting "headshots" in Thief 4)...

Didn't the original ones already have headshots? Or was it a matter of limb-shots vs torso-or-head-shots? I know there was some kind of locational damage, and pretty sure a well-placed arrow could kill many humans in one shot.

How long/short it is depends heavily on a few factors. The game is designed so you can make essentially a brawler/fighter build where you use force to put everyone down and you basically run into confrontation and deck everyone. Or to play it stealthily so that entire missions are possible with zero kills and zero alerts, the stealth play is a lot slower.

It also depends to what degree you want to loot the levels, the game when played as stealth is a lot like Thief where you can't help but loot everything.

Lastly most (I think all) of the levels have multiple paths to completing the objective, usually there's the brute simple way of taking out the target, but there's normally a much more subtle and complicated way which lets you avoid assassination but is harder, especially if you're stealth and have to go back and forth through the open levels to fill the requirements for doing so.

If you want to go for 100% in the game then you need to get the achievements where you get zero kills and zero alerts for the entire game (which I did get) and that means a 100% stealth play through and it means finding all the passive alternatives to assassinations. That's a very rewarding achievement to get and I normally don't bother with achievements at all.

I look forward to it. I loved how you didn't have to kill anyone at all in Dishonored. Slightly better game mechanic to Hitman which forced you to kill one person. I liked Hitman better though, beside that issue.

I loved the atmosphere in Dishonored, and half the fun was trying to find sneaky routes to move around town and through buildings. Great game. I'll have to play it through again before 2 comes out.

Too bad it went back up to $9.99... I thought about trying it after reading this thread, but I can wait for another $5 deal.
