Thats just strange. You shouldn't be having so many issues. It sounds to me like the install was crappy. I assume they switched out equipment already.

What do you mean your HD hasn't work for 4 weekends in a row?

For 4 weekends in consecutive succession, the High Definition programming that I am in contract to receive in my apartment does not function correctly.

Since you didn't understand the incredibly easy statement, perhaps you'll understand the overly complex one.

Instead of acting dickish, you could explain why it only doesn't work on the weekend. Or do you mean four weeks in a row?

Yeah, it's a building or complex wide issue from what the phone operator said. They've already swapped out the dish at least once.

Have they done much other testing?

Wiring messed up that bad in the complex?

I would recommend perhaps shooting off an email to ceo@echostar.com . No, obviously, it is not the actual CEO's email address. However it is the email address for an escalated customer service group. You might want to write a detailed email about the issues you have been having and see what they can do to actually fix the issues rather than just discounting the service. Not saying that you don't deserve the discount but I'm sure you'd prefer having service that works on a consistent basis.

Echostar and Dish are separate companies now, so this probably wouldn't help much.

Another question is do you know if any other people in the building are have the issue?

I am sure if you are able to get a list and send a copy to them they would do more then if it's just coming from one customer.

Threaten to slaughter their families, and bomb their homes. Tell them if they don't provide you with the service you deserve, you will gut their first born, and fill him with kitty litter.

OP is a muslim?

If we know why it didn't work, then it'd probably be fixed. If I meant 4 weeks in a row, I would have typed 4 weeks in a row.

What are you guys talking about when you call them? Seems like by now someone should have suggested changing out the box.

There have been several "known issues" with the dish that feeds my apartment complex.

I'm calm. Just a tad frustrated. I apologized to the service guy on the phone before I even started talking, knowing that it would be a frustrating call. And at the end I thanked him.

So...what did Bruce in Bangalore have to say?

Talking to the Indian first-level techs is usually a total waste of time.

Bitch enough, complain enough about the accent, and you'll USUALLY get passed up the support stream to someone who
(a) speaks gooder inglish, (
2) has the authority to work past the script that first-level has, and
(3) MIGHT actually give a shit about resolving your problem...if only to get you to go away.

We've had Dish for about 6-7 years. Overall, MUCH better than ComCrap ever was. We've had a couple of repair issues with their receivers and remotes, but after some bitching, they've replaced them at no cost.
Recently, since we have been out of contract for quite a while, we were talking about switching to Uverse...Dish must have been listening in...
They sent us an offer via snail mail that upgraded us to DVR at no charge for the equipment and no monthly charge, Added some HD channels, gave us 3 months of HBO, (and we can also have 3 months of Showtime when this offer is up) and with the 24 month contract, we get either 4 or 6 months free during the contract. MUCH better than the original offer, but they didn't want us to switch...so they increased the original offer.

Now if I only had a HD television to take advantage of the newer techy stuff...

Previous to the split up it worked and I think emails are forwarded over. If it doesn't work ceo@dishnetwork.com should work as its the same group.

How come you cant get DirecTV?

My guess would be that its because his apartment complex has an agreement with a company that does Dish Network installs and installed a Dish Network MDU (multiple dwelling unit) system in his apartment building and that same company doesn't do DirecTV installs. That being said it may be possible for the op to get DirecTV as long as he has an area under his exclusive control where he can put a DirecTV dish that has a line of site to the satellites he needs.

I rent. They'd allow cable, but there are no cable runs to the complex. In a month or two I plan on having my apartment complex call Wow cable's business line to try to get them in here.

I thought that was illegal (to force tenants into a particular company), although it may vary from state to state.

Not sure, but it sucks.

So after being promised a free month of service, today I receive a double bill. Guy says that I'll receive another month of free service but that I'll have to either pay this months double bill, or pay half and take a hit on my credit. Fuck both options. Supervisor is coming on.

this is interesting, the last 2 days i have been getting the error code 004 and can not access certain channels. some work and some don't but in my case all the HD channels work fine with the SD channels having the problem. i have made 2 phone calls and was told on second call that some kind of switch is bad and that they are sending a tech out to me to fix it. they even knocked $30 off my bill for the trouble.

I'm in the same boat, but at least it's with DirecTv. The local cable company (Cox) didn't run lines when the complex was built .. probably at the refusal of the complex owner. The complex has a MDU agreement with DirecTv. They provide basic cable (rebroadcast DTV) through their own company or give us the option of actual DTV service and then charge us an extra $10/month for their own "support". The extra fee kind of sucks, but when I have a problem, I just call the apartment complex techs and they handle all of the support. Well worth the $10/month when there is actually a problem.

My biggest complaint is that I'm stuck without cable internet service .. just Verizon DSL which is borderline terrible.

Considering you never said that in your op you should say what you have done and not just cry about it.

Sounds to me like someone is upset he can't see the good HD porn on weekends. 🙁

There is always the internet for that.

I don't watch TV, just trying to keep the wife happy.

maybe she'd be the one better off calling...does she know letterbars on HD tv is normal?

Under no circumstances should one allow the wife or SO to miss their scheduled Oprah recordings. Many of us have suffered through the maelstrom that follows such an event.

GL to you, sir. There are support groups if you need them.

Not sure, but it sucks.

I believe it is technically illegal in Chicago, but it sure goes down that way in every building that I've lived in. Chicago is cool like that.

I had the same issue with Comcast a few years back. the building infrastructure for the Comcast service was completely borked: old, leaky lines buried in roof tar and asphalt. The building was primarily an RCN building, so Comcast was not very interested in performing any real service. I paid for internet + basic cable; the internet NEVER worked due to extremely poor signal.

after 3 service calls, the 3rd group of technicians finally discovered the problem lay in the infrastructure, so they put in a work order to have those old lines replaced/repaired. Naturally, this never happened after several calls to check on the status. The worker order even came up as "complete," but it obviously never happened as the proof was right there on my crappy signal. the service guy showed up in his truck, squeezed a few off, then drove away, "complete."

I eventually threatened to BBB, leave, etc. They sent me to reclamation (You should ask to be transferred directly to reclamation dept, BTW). The rep eventually worked my monthly service down to ~$15/month for what they normally charge as an $75 package (at that time). I was still tapping wireless from the neighbors (our "paid-for" service, again, never worked). I took the offer, but still threatened to call RCN and if they showed up to install a new service before Comcast's techs showed up to to their job then they would be losing a customer.

"You have every right to do that, sir, and I don't blame you," she replied.

This was the 2nd of three major battles with Comcast; all different apartments.
