Dish Network -- point the dish

Hey guys.

I hope someone can tell me for sure...

I'm looking to make the switch to satellite. I'm going with Dish Network and I just needed someone to clarify which direction I needed to point the dish to. I always heard south OR east; however, a rep from a local satellite store I spoke to on the phone the other day insisted that south is the only option.

Any ideas???

You want a clear view of the southern sky, something that won't be obstructed when trees start to get their leaves.

Mine is pointing slightly to the southwest I think, and I'm in Ohio.

If you are in Ohio and are pointing it SE, then you aren't picking up dish signals, that much I can tell you.

I'm in KS and its pointed SW

The satellite in space is somewhere in the general direction of Texas so point it that way. Obviously it's not the same direction for the entire country.

Can you use Direct TV dish for Dish network?

I'd have to say yes? But you still need the correct IRD.

But Dish network can be converted to BEV network and vice versa.

Doh! You're right, my dish is pointed to the southwest. I knew that 😀

The older single LNB Dishnetwork and DTV dishes are totally interchangeable, the dish500 and the phaseIII dish are not.

Yes. all satellite dishes need to be pointed in a certain direction (obviously at the satellite you wish to receive signals from). to figure out where you need to point yours go here for the azimuth elevation and skew adjusted to your particular location in ohio.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I may be out of luck as my new apartment faces west. Hopefully, the property won't have a problem with me getting the dish professionally installed on the other side of the building or on top of the roof...
