DISH Network offering deal on 6000 receiver for HD programming! PLUS Both 8PSK and 8VSB modules!

This thread describes it.

Get the 6000 HD receiver WITH 8PSK and 8VSB modules and subscribe to the AT50 plus the new DISH HD Pack and the receiver is only $199. A great deal for the receive PLUS both modules (allows you to receive all of the new DISH HD channels plus OTA HD broadcasts where you live).

Deal good from 9/16/03 until 10/31/03.

I just had cable HD installed this past weekend (thru Insight). Sold off my 6000 receiver to a friend a couple of months ago for a few hundred. Whew! 😉

But, if I was to make a decision today, I'd go back to DISH.

Didnt see it mentioned in the thread from the link.

Come on, you're an Anandtecher. You can install it yourself! 😉

It was easy.🙂

I'm excited by this deal ... I think. I honestly didn't understand a darned thing they were saying. There were too many acronym's and I didn't understand the code.

Can someone translate for me, please?

It seems their CSRs don't know much about the deal yet either. All they could tell me is that the THINK it starts on the 16th.

I needed another receiver for another room anyway, so this seems like a great deal (have had my HDTV for 1 1/2 years now, and haven't used it!).

Would anyone know if this can just be hooked up to the dish I already have, or if there's some sort of different hardware I'll need? The link in the OP just tells me the server's too busy (I wonder why?!! 😛 )

OK,
I could be wrong but......

I am in Michigan
Right now, for ME to receive all the Dish channels, I have a dual lnb dish pointing to the southwest (same direction as DIRECTV dishes point) and a single lnb dish pointing to the southeast. I believe it is the SOUTHEAST pointing dish which is receiving the HD signals.

My understanding is that the current set-up is not sufficient for the addition of many more HD channels. DishNetwork was to have put up a new satellite last month to accomodate the addition of HD channels, and it has been said that to receive these channels will require the addition of a new "superdish". I think this will be a slightly larger 3 lnb dish that will have to point in the same direction as the dual lnb dish does now, the southwest. It has also been said that existing dish customers with the dual lnb dish can also get the new satellite by mounting another single lnb dish and pointing it toward the new satellite.

In my case it might even be possible to move the single lnb dish which now points southeast to the new position for the new satellite, as the HD programming for that dish will probably be moved to the new satellite location.

So many questions. So few confirmed answers. I hope I helped. If you have any further questions feel free t o PM me.

BTW, this is a great deal for this set-up. I have had my Dish 6000 for two years, and although I also have DIRECTV HD and HD Comcast cable, overall Dish is still my favorite. 🙂 It will be very interesting to see which signal provider will end up with the best HD line-up and at what price.😉

BTW, has anyone been watching the NFL games in HD? Makes it all worthwhile. I'm enjoying the new ESPN show "Playmakers" also. New episode on tonight. Love that ESPNHD.😀

From what I understand (and you can check around the HDTV forums at AVSForum...link my sig), Channels like HBO HD and Showtime HD will continue from 61.5 or 148 but the other HD channels (Discovery, ESPN, HDNet, etc.) will be at 110. I know HBO HD, Showtime HD, Discovery HD, and CBS HD were all available on 61.5 as that's where I pointed with my 2nd dish when I had DISH. I'm on Insight cable now and they offer an HD package for $7.50/mo. and $2/mo. HD box rental.

FYI for anyone thinking about doing this. I just ordered today. The 6000 receiver with the 8PSK and the required 2nd dish for $149 installed. They suggested waiting until November for the Superdish, but they'll likely be giving them away later anyway. The 8VSB Tuner cartridge is not included at that price. It's another $149. That's ok for now as I don't want to put up a rooftop antenna anyway. They're also supposedly going to move my existing PVR to a 2nd set and wire it all as part of the free install. This is directly through DISH and not one of the resellers.

Can't wait to watch some football in HD!!!
