Sorry to reply again but just to make it clear, i can't watch something and record something at the same time with the 510, correct? And this deal does not include the 721 right?

That's correct jacktackle. You may want to wait until Dish releases the 522 which will have 2 tuners in it like the 721, would hope they would have some deals on it as well.

Why the monthly fee? I think I will just pay for a PVR and not have them charge me per month for the fee. Can't you do that?

Why the monthly fee? Why, recurring revenue of course! If you already have a Dish PVR, you are grandfathered in and do not have to pay a fee (with the old 721s for example). If you are getting a new one, you have to pay the fee. I'm not sure, but I doubt you could activate an old PVR under the no-monthly-fee plan, so eBay doesn't help. Since DTivo has been getting away with it, Dish followed suit.

Which is what I don't understand, you get clearly better software (conflict resolution, wish lists, season passes) with the Tivo software. I simply don't understand how Dish thinks their product is competative at the same price.

i got in on the deal. The CSR knew what i was talking about.

i've had dish service for almost two years with no complaints so the deal works great for me.

I agree with you, which is one of the reasons I'm about to switch. However, Dish is the largest I believe, so they must feel they can get away with it.

I Just got off the ph with one of the Dish Network CSR. She told me that they are coming out with the Superdish Promo around Nov 15 and are in the process of getting the details

What she could tell me is that they are offering the package for New Customers for $1500 which includes
1. The Superdish
2. One Receiver / PVR
3. One 34" HDDirect OR 40" HDRPTV (Brand Unknown)

Installation is free and the basic HD channels will be included in this cost - Other HD channels would cost on monthly basis


The details at this time are a little sketchy - she said that this offer is for new customers only (but i suspect that they shd offer this to existing customers too)

I am unsure of putting down such a high sum of money of a Unknown Brand of TV.......


I ordered under the regular promo the normal NON- HD system for one room only (I live single) using a referral code so I get the equip/Install free and Free first 4 Mths of Americas top 100 with HBO + Cinemax - After 4 mths I have the option to downgrade to Top 50 package which will cost me $25 pm (there are a few rebates on HBO which shd bring down my cost further)

Now I cant figure out if I should wait or go ahead with my installation on the coming sunday

If anybody can pull up more details on this upcoming Superdish promo / package - it would be fantastic.

I can verify it I am a DishNet customer and I saw them discussing it on one of the DishNet channels. They are gonna have to packages with a TV. One package is with a HD receiver (with PVR) and the other is not (but has PVR)

Anybody got any more details on this ?? - They are coming in to install my regular Dish tomorrow - it would be good if someone can provide more details on the above package - I can't decide if I should go ahead with the installation of the regular dish or wait..........

Yes. Dish (Superdish), PVR, TV, installed

I can verify this. The TV is actually a pretty sweet looking TV (we've got them set up in our large break rooms). I want to say they're RCA's but I forget. I'll check tomorrow when I'm at work. The deal I think has started already, if not it'll be starting within the next week or so. We had our training on it but I was talking to this really hot girl and wasn't paying attention at the time.

I believe I read that the TVs supplied with these deals are non standard HDTV, so they will only "work" with the Dish receiver. I'm a n00b when it comes to HDTV, so you may want to research yourself before purchasing because I don't know the ramifications if it's true.

**DIGS UP THREAD** I'm closing in on one year with Dish soon so I wanted to try to get the gist of this as I'd like another DVR.

What are the overall differences for those of us on the Digital Home Plan? We have to pay $49.99 to get in on the deal PLUS make a 2 year committment? Or do we maybe have an option for $49.99 PLUS $99 for only a one year committment?

The only reason I'm hesitant to make a 2 year committment is because I'd like to see some Tivo-like features (mostly just a 'season pass'-like feature) added to Dish's DVR functionality. Other than that I love my 508 PVR and would like to add another, but they're impossible to find now outside of Ebay.

I'm assuming I can just swap out one of my 301's for the 510 (thus allowing me to keep my 508) and have to pay the $4.99 'video-on-demand' fee for JUST the 510 correct? And it is just $4.99/per 510-or-later DVR correct? I'm on the Top 50 and I thought I remember at one point hearing that the new DVR fee was more expensive for Top50 (which sucked royally IMO.)

GrandCow: Are 'season pass' style features on the drawing board and something that could be done automatically by software update or is that not a possibility? Tivo features are not THAT big a make-or-break deal to me since I'm assuming I'll only have to pay the fee for my 510 unit, but if they're going to charge a similar fee (and actually more expensive fee if you get multiple DVRs whereas Tivo only charges one fee per account if I'm understanding correctly) then it only seems logical they should offer comprable features.
