Starting tuesday I believe it was we started offering a DVR 510 (100 hours recording time) for customers that had been with the company for over a year. If you sign up for a 1 year contract you can get the DVR for $99. If you sign up for a 2 year contract you'll get the DVR for free. Both of those are shipped prices (have to swap out an older reciever). If you want to add it as an additional reciever, the cost is $24.99 installed if you aren't signed up for credit card autopay, or free installed if you do have CCA (both w/the 2 year agreement).

The 510 has a $4.99/month DVR fee and a $4.99/mo additional outlet fee, so if you're adding this as an additional reciever your bill goes up $10/month. Replacing a reciever already in the house raises your bill $5/month.

Hella sweet deal if you're already a customer and want to add a DVR.

Try 800-333-dish

The cupon code is "I want the DVR deal" when you get in touch w/a CSR.

Tempting, but I was watching the technical broadcast from last month and they were showing off the Superdish stuff that starts in Nov. I am going to see if there is any deal to upgrade that. If not, we are disconnecting in one name and signing up the next day in mine to get the new dish :).

I assume he means if you have a current active Dish receiver (like a the non PVR 301 or even an older 508 or 501 PVR) you can switch it with the 510.

No. You have to get the Dish 721 PVR to do that (two tuners).

If this was the 721, I'd be all over it. As it is, I'll just keep my trusty old Panasonic Showstopper :)

I just called the CSR hadn't heard of this, and wanted to charge me 49.99 to swap my 301 with the 510, and the 4.99 extra a month. (I was up for the 2 year commitment) I was on board for this till that happend. Anyone else have any luck with this?

Thanks,

The CSR I spoke with knew exactly what I was talking about. I'd call again and maybe try to get a different CSR.

It was explained to me in detail that the only charge I would have is the $4.98 ON DEMAND fee each month with the two year commitment. Since I already have credit card autopay (CAP), all shipping and handling charges are waived. You can sign up for CAP and they'll waive the s/h fee. The box they send will have a return shipping label inside of it to return my old receiver, which was a really old 1000 model and I'm glad to be rid of it.

If you already have a PVR, this offer might not apply to you, but I'm not sure.

This deal is legit.

Well I called back again, got a differen't CSR, same thing yes 4.99 extra a month but again she insisted that it would cost 49.99 to get the DVR upgrade. Ahhh this is frustrating

I'm not sure if the thing I'd heard about is the 'superdish' or not. A friend of mine works at Dish Network, she said they are coming out with a satellite receiver that is also the tuner, so you can have a HDTV that is 'dumb'. So you can buy just a HDTV monitor that doesn't have a tuner, so it'd be cheaper to get into the HDTV market.

I have DTV myself and always brag about my Tivo unit, she always reminds me "you're talking to the competition!", heheh..

I don't get it. What is your current configuration? Number of receivers, dishes, or do you have a PVR already? How long have you been with DN? You do have to send an old one back to get the "free" deal.

I'm just having them ship me the PVR and I'll hook it up myself. Maybe that's the difference, but I don't think so.

Even if you can't get it for free for some reason, $49.99 is still a pretty good deal for a PVR.

Hi everyone, my first post...

I signed up for Dish last December...not quite a year yet. :frown: Saw this deal on the web site yesterday and called today. The CSR told me that it'd be $99 for a 2 year contract since I haven't been a customer for 1 year yet. Now, don't get me wrong, $99 is a good deal for a DVR..but FREE is of course better! And I don't want to sign a 2 year contract at any rate. One year I'd be okay with, but 2 years seems like such a long time.

Any suggestions for people in the same situation?

Okay I found out why I have to pay 49.99 to get the deal, is because I am currently on the Digital Plus plan or something, where my equipment is under warranty all the time.

I'm Sooooo confused!!

Why do I have to pay the extra 'Video-On-Demand' monthly fee? Would I have to pay that fee if I bought a TiVo? If not, then isn't the TiVo cheaper over time?

Just some clarification on DeadSoulz's situation. The reason all of the CSRs say he must pay $49.99 is because he is under the Digital Home Plan where you are leasing the equipment. The 2 year option for free is not available to Digital Home Plan customers. Also remember that you can avoid the DVR fee if you are signed up for the America's Everything Package.
