I actually signed up to dish (hopped in the free HD tuner deal) last month. Was put on the waiting list. Install was supposed to happen two weeks ago. Never did hear from them. After the botched install, and the removal of comedy central, I'm going down to where I purchased the system, getting my $50 setup fee refunded and sticking with Direct TV.

Do you people think that this type of thing couldn't happen with another provider?

I have DN for 6 years and really have had no major complaints. In that 6 years, my local cable company has raised their rates by at least $15/month. My dish bill has gone up $4 a month in the same time period.

I do think it's commendable that DN stands up for what they think is right. The problem with the Albritton dispute wasn't a monetary issue, rather a broadcast rights issue in certain market areas. Albritton was the one that pulled the plug, not DN. Albritton was wrong and everything worked out OK and I got my ABC affiliate back. DN even gave me $5 refund that month for a day without my local ABC, and it wasn't even their fault.

If DN wouldn't dispute this and pass the cost to us without explanation, we would be pissed at DN. At least we know something is going on. Better to be informed than rather be in the dark.

Cable companies just go with the hikes and pass it right on to their customers. Maybe they all should do as DN and make a stand.

MY $.02.

Cable companies and other providers obviously don't mind it too much so long as they can past the cost on and probably even make markup profit along the way (people have proven they're willing to pay for it.) Obviously Dish does this as well. Both sides are obviously spinning the story their way.

I think the fact that they're disputing this is in public is what Dish is pinning their hopes on for being able to back down while trying to save face. By making a public stand now they're hoping people will see it the way you do and not be quite so bitter if they have to pass an increase along to the customers. Viacom is obviously putting out their spin on what end-effect cost it'll have to the average Dish customer, but it's hard to know if that would be true or not given the source. If Viacom doesn't cave in the next couple days Dish will have to give in. Some of those channels (the Nick ones for families, the CBS affiliates in major markets) are just too important for them NOT to provide to their customers for an extended period.

If we were just speculating on a cave-in time based purely on lost programming (I realize there's a lot of other factors involved here, but this is just from a 'I can't live without that show' perspective), sometime before Thursday primetime would seem the most likely candidate IMO. That's one of the largest viewing nights for TV audiences and particularly for CBS with big ratings shows like Survivor and CSI coming on that night.

DTV is increasings the rates this month to 37 total choice, 40 total choice w/ locals. They raised about a year ago, when I ordered it, but they gave me one year for $2.

Depends on if Comcrap gets control of the mouse...if that happens, expect them to pull the same crap only the rate increase will be MUCH higher (take all our Comcrap sports channels, ESPN, Disney, and everything else...put them in your lowest tier, and we want $10 more a month--take it or leave it)

VIACOM 400% rate hike

While some of you may be upset over loosing Nick at Nite, MTV, VH1, etc. I see this as a positive. Dish is fighting to protect the end consumer from higher rates. VIACOM is a greedy corporation.

For those affected, contact VIACOM and let them know how you feel.

Didn't Dish Network just raise their own rates like 10%?

I know DTV did.

Well you don't know much because my DTV bill has been the same for 10 months ....;)

Sorry, but DTV raised my rate approximatley 10%. I don't have a contract.
