The concept of an Oracle in The Matrix plot is troublesome to me because:
How is the Oracle to be rationalized?
Is it God's omnipotent influence within the Matrix (ie, the Oracle is the construct of an Angel)?
Or, perhaps, the Oracle is really an undercover, benevolent "Agent", created by ?Really Nice Aliens? that just so happen to possess time travel technology?
Perhaps after George educates Weena (from H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine") she desires to help humans "everywhen", becomes a "Time Missionary", and is "now" the Oracle in The Matrix.
Perhaps we should just ignore any rational understanding of the Oracle and enjoy the movie for what it is...still...I will be looking for an explanation of the Oracle?s future knowing abilities in the forthcoming movies.
However, here is my theory that explains the existance of the Oracle:
The ?reality? outside the Matrix is really some sort of ?nested loop?, ?recursive subroutine?, or ?error trap? within the Matrix (thus, not reality at all) that provides a multiple-logical-layer mechanism, so that the ?overall integrity? of The Matrix will always be preserved. In this way, ?Outer-Loop Agents? such as the Oracle would appear to ?Inner-Loop? people-constructs as "True Oracles".
Further, there would be no way of knowing if one were free of The Matrix, or forever trapped within an infinity of false realities. (Hows that for a version of Hell?)
Because knowledge is ultimately mightier than the sword, it occurs to me that the Oracle, is at least as powerful, if not more so, than Neo: and certainly more mysterious.
Regardless, if I were The One, (and of course after doing my best He Man rendering of ?I have the Power? and conjuring up a Tolkien, Glamdring-like sword) I would team up with the Oracle ASAP (ideally outside the Matrix, if that were possible) in order to combine the ?ultimate power? of The One with the ?ultimate knowledge? of the Oracle so that: [begin Darth Vader Voice] Together we can bring an end to this destructive conflict [end Darth Vader Voice].
