Discrepancy in Windows XP's Task Manager

The Processes tab shows the System Idle Process as being the "busiest" process, hovering around 95-99%. But the Performance tab shows my CPU usage around 50%, with the first core maximally used and the second core almost free. The little box at the very bottom that says "CPU Usage: xx" also reflects the data shown in the Performance tab.

Does anybody know why the Processes list wouldn't show one core being maxed out?

EDIT: I do have a Kaspersky trial running in the background which is acting up. It's supposedly updating its database right now but the update operation has been on for about 19 hours. The trial has not expired (far from it). Resuming the operation does not do anything, and I cannot terminate the process(es), either. Would this have anything to do with the hidden CPU usage? I would restart, but I'm in the middle of copying a bunch of ISOs and I can't risk losing any of the data (see other thread).

Maybe it's processes that are being run under a different user? I run off a limited user account but my folding@home processes running as services do not show up in the processes tab unless I click "show processes from all users".

edit: probably isn't this, as I tried checking/unchecking the box, and the %'s are consistent in both cases, just that some processes are not listed

I think I see where the CPU cycles are going.

Any idea why Kaspersky isn't being reported properly in the list?
