DiscoveryHD is one of my favorite channels. The shows have that Discovery Channel "very interesting" thing going for them and for some reason it seems to have the best PQ of any of my HD channels. Awesome stuff.
(Singapore is very nice, btw. Great place to visit but really pricey to live there.)

ps - i like the new sig ;)

It would probably look even better on a Panasonic or Pioneer Plasma.

Really? Why is that?

STFU....the man has good taste. Respect your Grand Nagus and kiss the staff!

<_____Panasonic HDTV owner and proud.

And Rossman, couldn't agree with you more. Although you need to watch "Bikini Destinations" and "Art Mann Presents" on HD Net to take full effect of your HD veiwing experience ;)

I have this channel and I have it on all the time when no games are playing on ESPN HD and ESPN HD2.

I have never been a big fan of Plasma TV's.

Until I saw a Panasonic 58" Plasma @ CostCo, WOW!

Because plasma TVs provide the best HD picture, and Panasonic and Pioneer produce some of the best plasmas. Maybe that could be it.

Then I'm sure you'd sh!t if you saw Panasonic's 65" 1080p on display. From what I've heard the scene in MI:III where Tom Cruise was going to make the jump from one building to the other and you can see the city night lights, was absolutely breath taking on that TV. (Obviously you'd also need the HD version of MI:III and an HD-DVD player)

I'm more into the DLPs. I have one of the Samsung 61" HL-S6188Ws. The picture is amazing out of the box. Even more so after a thorough AVIA calibration and some tweaks in the service menu (disabling overscan).

Any way to watch this on the computer if you can't get an OTA signal?

Fanboy. Projection DLP's doesn't come anywhere close to a plasma in quality. I have a 61" DLP myself.
The blacks are horrible, the contrast sucks, and they both such even more if there's light in the room. Plasma has deep blacks and CRT like colors.

I liked the show they had on the ironworkers building the WTC 7 replacement.

Walking around on those beams several hundred feet up. Whew!

I call it the way I see 'em. I recommended a 50" Samsung DLP to my brother because he was looking at an HDTV in a certain price range and the DLP fit beautifully (a good 50" plasma back then was in the $5000 range). The TV has a great picture, but when you are talking about the BEST, the nod definitely goes to plasmas. HOWEVER, if you are in a room with a lot of ambient light (more like a window), a plasma may not be the best choice for you.

Correction: Discovery HD COULD be awesome if all the providers didn't compress the hell out of their HD channels.

When I first got HD 4 years ago, the compression was MUCH less and HD had a "picture window" quality about it. First DirecTV compressed the hell out of their HD channels, and now even cable companies and many OTA stations have taken that quality away. No provider has the detail and clarity HD used to have and few OTA stations do.

It's sad, really.

Im sorry but plasma >> DLP in terms of PQ

And yes, Discovery HD is awesome. I enjoy it often on my Panasonic CRT HDTV

But what the hell happened to Discovery Atlas HD? They had it on for like 4 weeks and 4 different countries. But then it just stopped?! I thought they filmed like 30 countries or something? Man that show was awesome! 2 hrs of pure HD goodness!

I just find the screen-door effect on plasma intolerable. I agree it offers excellent color and black levels, but the SDE causes certain things (particularly diagonal lines, like the yard lines on a football field) to look really jaggy to me. To my eyes SXRD has the best picture quality, followed by DLP, followed by plasma.

I'm looking forward to my upgrade to HD Cable with my roommates new 42" Panasonic Plasma. :) I really want to check out Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel.

PLASMA, DLP and LCD displays are subject to the SCREEN DOOR EFFECT. ;)

Yeah, they've all got the effect but I find it to be the worst on plasmas. Even the $10,000 Elite panel at the local Magnolia store suffers from it enough that I'd not consider it. Maybe it's just somethign my eye picks up easier, but I sold off my plasmas and switched to LCD's because the LCD's are less obviously screen-doored in my view. When I'm next in the market for a new screen I'll reassess things, but I'm happier than I've ever been with what I have now. But hey... we're all different!

I don't find it visible with DLP, even when I'm standing right next to the screen. My understanding is that the pixels on a DLP set literally overlap slightly, hence no SDE. It is definitely apparent to me on LCD DV and RP sets, and on plasma, but not at all on DLP or LCoS. To my eyes LCoS (particularly Sony's version) and DLP have the most film-like image, with no SDE.
