Discover Card 5% Cashback Bonus 7/1 - 9/30

It's that time of year again. If you have a Discover credit card, you can sign up for 5% cash back on Gas, Hotels, Admission to theme parks, water parks, museums, aquariums and zoos (7/1 - 9/30) @ Discover.com

Signing up is as easy as logging in and clicking 2 buttons. I'm not sure why Discover makes you do something as mundane as signing up for it (when they could just do it automatically), but whatever.

I'll switch to my Discover to buy gas and get like $0.16 back per gallon. Not too shabby.

Just a heads up for the Summer traveling season.

I signed up today also. The funny thing about this promotion is it's the smallest maximum benefit they give. By that I mean it's 5% from a maximum of $400.00 spent on gas, hotel, parks, etc.. That translates to a very small 20.00 bonus. My gas to work and back will eat that up in 7 weeks at today's prices. While it is better than nothing, it's even lower than the one going on now. The current one is for Lowe's, Bed bath beyond, etc which is limited at 5% of 500.00 in purchases or 25.00 bonus. I think early last year they had three months where the 5% was on 2,000.00 in purchases which included Dell among others.

Or you could just get an Amex blue card. 5% on Gas, Pharmacy and groceries after 6K spent on the card. Not to mention Amex service is second to none. To start off with, you don't have to talk with questionable derogatory reference removed Then you get to what they do...

Card and brand new cell stolen. Amex refunded amount spent on cell no questions asked within 24hrs, and then overnighted me a temporary card free of charge. That's ridiculous....

Talk about earning my business.

This is your one warning.

Yeah, the Discover More card is pretty weak as far as rewards cards go. AmEx Blue Cash is much better for a lot of peoples' spending. My personal favorite du jour is the Citi Driver's Edge -- 6% back on gas/grocery/drug store spending for the first year, no tiers.

I agree that their lowering of the ceiling cripples the program. I sign up for them anyway, but it's getting to be ridiculous.
