Disconnect hourly, dhcp server unreachable

I have a very weird problem. I am using a computer putting together using
Epox 8rda+ (onboard lan)
win2k
direct connection to cable modem

I will get disconnected every hour, precisely between 1 hour and 1 hour 1 minute. I am on time warner cable with mcafee firewall. The CSR tested and there is no hardware or server problem, but when i use ipconfig /renew, I couldn't locate dhcp server.

I did the following:
1. turn off all power saving options.
2. stop the firewall.
3. exit all other applications beside game: EQ2 and firefox.

It doesn't help either. I checked tcp/ip and all others, didn't find a problem. anyone got a clue what is going on? 🙁 thanks!

yea I saw this problem long ago, and its the ISPs problem. I didnt lose connection but pretty much anytime I tried to force a renew, it would fail.

Take a look and see when your IP Lease is set to expire.

It is usually longer than 1 hour.

I also have time warner and my current lease expires "Mon Dec 13 05:24:34 2004 "

I have seen firewalls do something like this even when turned off,but it usually involves Zone alarm and the older mcafee firewalls.

If you have the install disks I would try un-installing it.I have never seen a firewall break in 1 hour increments, usually they just stop everything.

It is a shot in the dark but worth a try.

Also, don't forget the basics. do a full virus scan and check for spy-ware. A Trojan may have snuck in and is trying to route you through a proxy or something.

And try to use a different virus scanner than your using now. THEY ALL MISS THINGS. I usually double check mine with http://housecall.trendmicro.co...usecall/start_corp.asp
