disassembling microsoft force feedback pro

i have an original Microsoft Force Feedback Pro (NOT VERSION 2.0). the little metal pin thingy that comes in contact with the plug on the AC/DC power adaptor broke off.

i called Microsoft and they sent me a version 2.0 free of charge and without hassle, and they let me keep my broken stick.

but i figure i could easily fix the broken one with a soldering iron, if i could just get inside it. since it doesnt work ive got nothing to lose. and if i fix it then ive got 2 $100 joysticks for the price of one. it has 7 easily accessible screws on the bottom and 4 on the top around the stick itself. i removed them all and i still cant seem to get inside the casing. any one ever done this by any chance or have any ideas? 😀

DON'T DO IT!!!! There's these little buggers inside that are the ones that grab the stick and yank it around giving you the "force feedback". I think they're basically Finlanders that Microsoft shrunk down, and boy do they get nasty! I mean, it really takes a lot to get a Finlander mad, but shrinking them down and stuffing them inside a joystick is a sure-fire way to do it. And once they get out, they like to take their revenge on people like you and me that buy the sticks. Honest, it's not worth it.

uh... ok... I don't think there are any tiny foreign "dudes" or things keeping you from opening the case... I'm thinking that there are some plastic snaps inside that are keeping the case on... try wedging the seem with a knife and prying it off, ever so slightly to preserve your case... I had an MS Sidewinder joystick that busted so I "cracked" it open to see what was the problem (who am I kidding, I wanna see what's inside)... anyways... there were a series of plastic snaps that weren't allowing me to take the case off even after I took off the screws... but they were no match for my trusty pocket knife and a little elbow grease... hope this helps...

Just pry with screwdrivers very carefully and watch out for all of Bill Gates little people he has inside of there.
